🎉 Help us wish a very Happy Birthday to our Executive Director, Erin Hooks! 🎂

Erin works tirelessly for the SALT Block and brings so much heart, humor, and dedication to everything she does. We’re lucky to have her as our leader, colleague, and friend.

We may be a little biased, but we think she’s worth her SALT! 🧂❤️

Happy Birthday, Erin! We hope your day is every bit as wonderful as you are.

🥳 Help us celebrate Erin by leaving her some birthday love in the comments!

We are thrilled to share that the Don & Kirvin Norwood $500,000 Matching Campaign has officially reached its goal! Thanks to the generosity of donors throughout our community, $500,000 in matching funds have been secured for a total of $1,000,000 pledged to the SALT Block Foundation's Capital Endowment.

The Capital Endowment focuses exclusively on infrastructure needs, such as HVAC replacement, roofing, glass, power systems, major structural repair, parking lots, technology installation and upgrades, and other essential infrastructure needs.

The Capital Endowment will help secure the future of the SALT Block by providing sustainable support for critical infrastructure needs for years to come through this dedicated Capital Endowment. It ensures that our resident organizations, Catawba Science Center, Hickory Museum of Art, Western Piedmont Symphony, Hickory Choral Society, and Arts Culture Catawba, can continue focusing on the exceptional programs, performances, exhibitions, and educational opportunities that enrich our region. This pivotal fundraising success will allow The SALT Block Foundation to continue its mission of funding the majority of infrastructure and operational costs for our resident organizations.

To everyone who contributed and pledged to this campaign, please accept our heartfelt thanks. Your generosity is an investment in the future of the SALT Block and the cultural life of our community.

Because of you, this treasured campus will continue inspiring, educating, and bringing people together for generations to come.

🌳 Wow, what a storm we had Monday evening!

Our staff arrived Tuesday morning to find that a tree had partially collapsed onto one of our garden sculptures. Thankfully, the art survived the storm! The team at Chester Tree Care, LLC did a fantastic job carefully uncovering Linkages by artist Wayne Trapp. ❤️

Moments like this are a good reminder of an important part of what the SALT Block Foundation does every day. We care for and preserve the buildings and grounds that our resident organizations call home, including handling the unexpected when it comes our way.

Just another day in the life of your friendly neighborhood benevolent landlord! 🌳🏛️

After recently helping an Eastern Hercules beetle find a safer spot, the SALT Block had another tiny visitor.

Our friends at Western Piedmont Symphony spotted this beautiful praying mantis perched on a sun-soaked window and relocated it to a cool, shady patch of mulch. 🌿

Fun fact: Praying mantises are incredible ambush hunters that help keep gardens healthy by feeding on flies, moths, mosquitoes, and other insects. They can also turn their heads nearly 180°, making them some of nature's most impressive little predators! 👀

Arts, science, culture... and apparently insect rescue! 🐞💚

You never know what fascinating wildlife you'll discover when you visit the SALT Block.
