ICYMI 🎥✈️ Sarah from Explore More Discovery Museum and Heather from SHD stopped by WHSV-TV 3 yesterday to talk all things Run the Runway 5K, happening Sept. 13 — including an important reminder that the T-shirt deadline is this Sunday, Aug. 30!

But before the real interview, they figured… what better place to practice than the newly updated TV studio at Explore More? Let’s just say the practice round didn’t quite go as planned. 😂🎬

Thankfully, the real interview went much more smoothly! Check out the link in the comments to hear all about this year’s Run the Runway.

Once you’ve finished laughing at our outtakes and gotten all the details, make sure you’re registered to snag that race shirt before Sunday!

Now that the big kids are heading back to school, we’re wrapping up summer camp season with some of our youngest explorers! 🎨❤️

This week, our Colorful Creations campers are painting, mixing, experimenting and discovering just how much fun a world full of color can be.

And we’re not quite finished yet! Next week, Monster Mash takes over the Museum.

Monster Mash
August 24–28 | 9 AM–12 PM
Don’t let the name fool you. There’s nothing scary about this camp! It’s chock-full of monster-themed stories, slimy science, not-so-spooky snacks, music, games, creative drama and plenty of silly fun.

We still have a couple of spaces remaining. Grab your spot and finish the summer with some monster-sized fun!

We’re grateful for their energy, enthusiasm and willingness to jump in wherever they were needed. They were an important part of the Explore More team!

A special thank you to The Gaines Group Architects for sponsoring our summer teen internship program and making this valuable leadership experience possible. ⭐ And, a big thank you to our Volunteer Coordinator, Hannah Royal, for keeping us organized and productive!

Fort City became Fort Unity this week! ❤️

Campers started with an empty room and a big challenge: build their own city from the ground up. They named it Fort Unity, planned and built businesses and community spaces, created campaign signs, gave speeches, cast their ballots and elected a mayor, vice-mayor and city council members.

They also took their learning beyond the Museum, visiting downtown businesses and taking a private tour of Harrisonburg, VA - Government City Hall, where campers got an inside look at local government and received their own official city badges.

Along the way, they discovered that building a city takes more than cardboard, sheets and chairs. It takes planning, problem-solving, cooperation and people working together.

We think the citizens of Fort Unity did an outstanding job! ⭐
