Hagerstown Regional Airport (HGR) is seeking volunteers to participate in a full-scale simulated aircraft emergency disaster exercise on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The exercise is designed to evaluate and strengthen the emergency response capabilities of Hagerstown Regional Airport and the agencies and organizations that would respond to a real aircraft emergency. Volunteers will play an important role by portraying passengers and other individuals involved in the simulated incident, allowing participating agencies to test emergency operations from the initial response and medical management through passenger accountability, tracking, and reunification.

Open cockpit. Engine humming. A thousand feet over the Hagerstown Valley.

We're flying PT-19 rides at the Hagerstown Aviation Museum today, and the weather is as good as it gets. This is a real World War II primary trainer — the airplane thousands of Army pilots learned to fly in — and today the instructor's seat is yours.

Wind in your hair, farms and ridgelines rolling out under the wing, and a view of Hagerstown you've never had before. Every ride is a donation that goes straight into preserving these aircraft and keeping them flying.

Saturday, August 29, 10am to 3pm.

Come find us. Bring a friend. You will not forget this one.

A Splash of Fairchild at AirVenture 2026

One of the highlights of EAA AirVenture is discovering aircraft with ties to Hagerstown’s remarkable aviation legacy. These beautiful Fairchild aircraft, photographed this week among the thousands of airplanes gathered at Oshkosh, are a reminder that Fairchild’s influence reaches far beyond Maryland.

From classic designs that helped shape general aviation to the military aircraft that carried the Fairchild name around the world, it’s always exciting to see these airplanes still flying, still admired, and still connecting people with aviation history.

If you’re visiting AirVenture this year, keep an eye out for the Fairchild name—you may be surprised how often it appears.

And if you’re back home, experience that legacy in person at the Hagerstown Aviation Museum, where we’re working every day to preserve and share the story of the people and aircraft that helped make Hagerstown one of America’s great aviation cities.

Have you spotted a Fairchild aircraft at Oshkosh this year? Share your photos in the comments!
