MacRostie Art Center MacRostie Art Center
501(c)3 non-profit organization
"Inspiring a creative community." We work to keep the arts visible as a defining part of the community.

The MAC exists to support and advance the work of professional artists in our region and build a community that recognizes, appreciates and celebrates art. We believe that art is central to the quality of life in northern Minnesota – as it is everywhere – and that the artists who create, sell, and exhibit art play a vital role in society. Art is not a luxury, but an important engine for economic g

rowth and community development. With these values at our core, MacRostie Art Center presents exhibitions, workshops, classes, festivals, lectures, and other activities to engage the community in the arts. We support artists by providing a well-established venue for exhibition and sale of work. MacRostie Art Center is an active and involved member of the community that has been our home for over fifty years. We work collaboratively with social groups and agencies, educators, and other arts organizations on projects that reflect our shared objectives. It is the goal of the MAC that our services will reach all segments of the community, our efforts will enhance the status of northern Minnesota as an arts destination, and the artists who live and work here will be supported and valued. THANK YOU to the many artists, members, and donors who make our work possible!

Studio Stop #3! Doug Lien and Nelia Harper Art share the studio space in the lower level of the Eye Care Clinic building in downtown Grand Rapids. Nelia is a classically trained artist who has a large body of work and also offers a lot of classes to the community and leads the Grand Rapids Area Plein Air Paint Outs. Doug is so much fun to talk to, and has an interesting history of depicting sports in his artistry. He mostly paints in watercolor, and will leave you inspired to pick up a brush yourself.

Be sure to check out this stop along the tour!

Mark your calendars! This year's studio tour is over the weekend of October 3rd and 4th. Not all stops are open on Sunday, so you'll want to grab a brochure from the MAC, read about the artists, and plan your route! Brochures will be available by the First Friday of September.

Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting the stops along the way, stay tuned! Read more about the Studio Tour on our event page: https://macrostieartcenter.org/studiotour
