Happy National Beach Day!

A new park has joined the collection on a very fitting day!

The Beach opened in 1985 and was one of Ohio’s first major waterparks. It was situated just North of Kings Island on the other side of the freeway. Pipeline Plunge was an enclosed body slide that didn’t stand too tall but had a bunch of twists and turns.

Did you know that the train that runs on The Bat at Canada’s Wonderland was originally for Dragon Fyre?

Dragon Fyre is an Arrow Dynamics loop screw coaster with 2 vertical loops and 2 corkscrews. It is also the only Arrow Dynamics roller coaster to have a left handed double corkscrew. The coaster originally opened with 3 trains, but quickly dropped to 2 train operation.

When Vekoma first started building boomerangs, they used Arrow’s rolling stock, so to save money Canada’s Wonderland chose to use their extra 3rd train from Dragon Fyre instead of buying a new train for the ride.

Something that we didn’t have time to make a placard at the open house for was the first thing everyone encountered!

This June turnstile #1 from the Sea World Ohio entrance greeted visitors for the first time in nearly a decade! This turnstile was installed in 1996 and remained in place until WildWater Kingdom closed in 2016.

Side note, the garbage can is also from SeaWorld!

Rides are often specifically designed to make a visual impact on the skyline or from a specific sightline. What is/was your favorite looking roller coaster?

Between the setting and ride design, there have certainly been some stunning looking rides built over the years!

Kings Island’s Log Flume dates back to 1968. It originally operated from 1968-1971 at Coney Island Ohio before the park was relocated and reopened as Kings Island. It was the second Arrow Dynamics log flume built in Ohio after Mill Race at Cedar Point in 1963.

Which name did you ride it first as?

Charlie Brown’s Racing River, Race For Your Life Charlie Brown, The Wild Thornberry’s River Adventure, Kings Mills Log Flume, or simply Log Flume when it was still at Coney Island?

Euclid Beach was among the most innovative parks of the early 1900s introducing many built in house attractions and items that functioned as operational amenities as well as decorations around the park. In a way, the park was Northern Ohio’s original Cedar Point!

The park built some of the largest coasters of the time and even had their own method of pouring concrete to withstand the harsh winters on the lakefront.

There are tons of stories about the park that have shown it was ahead of its time!

The Fright Zone at Erieview Park was a dark ride that operated at the park from 1980 until the park closed in 2006. The ride props were made by Bill Tracy, however the ride itself was made by Allan Herschell.

The ride originally operated at West View Park from 1963 - 1977.

In our collection we have car 3 which came from the Euclid Beach Boys collection!
