M-160 Passes Annual

We got lots of inquiries about the museum's Santa Fe motorcar M-160. It seems to have its own following dating back to its last days of service in New Mexico during the late 1960s. We're pleased to report that it passed its most recent annual mechanical inspection with flying colors. Engine, electrical, and running gear components, while dated, are in good order. The EMD 6-567B engine bars over smoothly. The fuel control rack is free, and oil analysis reveals no issues. We're currently looking for a fresh set of starting batteries to replace an aging set. In fact, we are in need of several sets of batteries for our various diesel locomotives. Give us a shout if you run accross some serviceable used sets!

Built by Brill in 1931, M-160 is one of three surviving Santa Fe motorcars. It last operated between Clovis and Carlsbad, NM on the “Pecos Valley Chief” until 1967. It was a gift of the Santa Fe in 1969.
