La Rambla, Barcelona

"La Rambla, Barcelona" translates the postcard charm of this iconic promenade into a vivid scene alive with color and texture. Inspired by a postcard I found 30 years ago, this piece reimagines the bustling avenue after my original collage sold quickly and disappeared into the world. Stalls overflow with bright flowers and umbrellas, crowds meander beneath green canopies of dancing sunlight, and warm hues of terracotta and ochre adorn the facades. I visited La Rambla recently, and to my disappointment discovered it largely torn up for street construction. Those who have experienced it free of chain link fences and tractors say it's unforgettable--and I'd like to think this piece carries a little of that magic for anyone who dreams of being there.
