Since 1951, Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio has been known as “The Track that Action Built,” with some of the best drivers having raced there. The Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame was established in 2009, fueled by the goal to honor the track’s more than 60-year history and enshrine the people who helped make Fremont Speedway what it is today. The public can tour the hall of fame to see plaques dedicated to inducted individuals and historic photographs of the track’s history. As the only museum like this in the state, the public can sign up for Fremont Speedway Historical Club memberships to be part of the voting process on the hall of fame’s future classes. On August 8, 1992, Frankie Kerr won the World of Outlaws feature at the Track That Action Built. Joe Gaerte finished second, and Stevie Smith finished third. But according to the article, the biggest surprise of the night was Steve Kinser finishing 13th.

Today we are keeping the family and loved ones of Hall of Famer Bill Cicanese in our thoughts with the news of their loss of Bill. Bill was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015.

On May 6, 2006, Dean Jacobs won the All Star Circuit of Champions feature at the Track That Action Built. Also on that night, Paul Weaver won the 305 sprint feature, and Bob Dible won the dirt truck feature.

Before Fremont Speedway became the track we know today, two big car races in 1936 and 1948 were run on the half‑mile horse track at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds. The photos below show how the layout evolved from the half‑mile configuration in 1951 to the modern track. The curved paved lane that now cuts through the fairgrounds once formed the outside of turns 3 and 4, and today’s pit area sits where turns 3 and 4 of the old half‑mile track used to be.

In 2012, Grover Ritter and Ron Boos were inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame. Two longtime car owners who racked up six 6-cylinder sportsman championships and 54 career wins with 2009 Hall of Famer Herbie Robison.
