Big thanks to Jim Sleek for sharing his family’s rich music history with us!

We’ve added Sleek Brothers memorabilia to the Sounds of Sandusky County display at the Birchard Public Library, including a photo of the band with their bus, Orange Blossom Special, their original album with a matching title track, and performance-worn boots and hat from Ray Sleek.

Next time you’re at the library, be sure to check out the brief band history included with the display and learn more about this local music legacy. Thanks again, Jim!

Another lost recording uncovered! This is a test pressing of the US Rock and Roll Team from 1978/79 that never made it to press. Thanks to Paul Juhasz for sharing this rare acetate. These songs rip!

In October 1951, Hollywood actress Jeanne Crain visited Fremont, Ohio, as part of Movie Time U.S.A., a national post–World War II campaign promoting the return of moviegoing across America. This photograph shows WFRO radio host Frank Schwartz interviewing Crain in front of the Sandusky County Courthouse—it appears she may have even received a key to the city. The other individuals pictured remain unidentified.

🎬 Fun fact: Crain starred in the 1944 film A Home in Indiana, with scenes filmed at the Sandusky County Fairgrounds, home to the early horse track that later became Fremont Speedway—which, coincidentally, opened in the fall of 1951, the same time as Crain’s visit.

📸 Photo courtesy of Chris Schwartz, whose father, Frank Schwartz, conducted the interview.
