For more than forty years, William Campbell Gallery has been widely known for its contributions to the constantly evolving world of contemporary art. Founded in 1974, William Campbell Gallery exhibits high-quality contemporary art in a variety of media, including paintings, works on paper, mixed-media constructions, photography, prints, ceramics, and sculpture. By exhibiting globally recognized artists, along with new and emerging talent, the gallery aims to nurture an awareness and appreciation of the exciting diversity found in contemporary art.

In his Button Flower and Reversal Poppies series, Sultan pairs bold silkscreen color with enamel inks and velvety, flocking textures on heavy museum board. The process gives his iconic floral silhouettes a distinct physical presence, balancing clean graphic shapes with deep, tactile depth.

Featured in Paper Cuts: atmospheric works on paper by Fort Worth artist Julie Lazarus.
Lazarus builds luminous, fluid compositions by layering oil monotype, woodcut, and linocut directly onto delicate, handmade Suzuki rice paper. Using collage and chine collé techniques, she blends printmaking with expressive movement, capturing reflections of light, water, and architectural forms within the paper’s fibers.

Featured in Paper Cuts: the material-driven works on paper by Jake Gilson.
Gilson approaches paper with direct, physical energy—combining oil pastel, dye, wax, and even gunpowder to build rich, weathered surfaces. Rather than treating paper as a flat backdrop, he works directly into its texture through layering, burn marks, and surface tension, allowing each piece to reveal its own raw history.

Artist Spotlight: Basie Allen

Featured in Paper Cuts: New York-born artist and poet Basie Allen.
Basie captures a raw, physical tension between natural forms and utility materials. To create these works on paper, he paints gestural abstractions directly onto industrial camping tarps before transferring the paint while still wet. The process leaves a vivid, tactile impression—imprinting both the fluid movement of the paint and the fine, woven grid of the tarp itself.

Holding an MFA in poetry from Columbia University, Basie’s multidisciplinary work has been exhibited at MoMA PS1, Marlborough Contemporary, and Eric Firestone Gallery.

Artist Spotlight: Introducing David Willburn

Featured in Paper Cuts: Fort Worth-based artist David Willburn.
Blending abstraction with textile processes, David’s practice challenges the boundaries of traditional painting. By stitching, weaving, printing, and layering, he translates themes of memory, domesticity, and West Texas material culture into striking, dimensional forms.

In addition to teaching as Professor of Visual Art at Dallas College, David exhibits nationally, including past shows at the Museum of Arts and Design in New York and Dallas Contemporary.

Artist Spotlight: Introducing Amy Berlin
We are thrilled to feature Dallas-based artist Amy Berlin for the very first time as part of our group exhibition, Paper Cuts.
A self-taught artist with a background as an English major and creative agency owner, Amy’s practice is deeply rooted in her love for literature and paper. Her mixed-media works begin with a process of foraging—rescuing aged book pages, vintage braille, player piano rolls, and typing paper to give discarded materials a second life.
For Amy, repurposing these cast-offs is an act of stewardship. Layering found paper with her own mixed-media remnants of paint, pastel, graphite, and ink, she honors the inherent history of her materials while transforming them into something completely new.
