Twenty-five years ago, our nation changed forever.

On September 11, 2026, the Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum will hold a Remembrance Ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Join us as we honor the 343 FDNY firefighters and all first responders who gave everything that day.

Over the weekend, we welcomed more than 35 visitors to the museum but one young visitor gave us a little fire safety lesson of her own.

We started talking about smoke alarms and how important it is to test them every month. She laughed, looked at her mom and said "We do."

We kept going. If there's a fire, get out of the house safely. Check the door with the back of your hand before opening it. If there's smoke, stay low and crawl underneath it. And when that smoke alarm goes off?

She had some advice for Mom:

"It the smoke alarm goes off, Mom, you don't get to finish what you're doing first. You get out!"

But wait, she wasn't finished.

We started talking about the fire triangle, and she knew that too: heat, fuel, and oxygen. Take away one and the fire can't keep burning, right?

This is exactly why we love having kids visit the Fire Museum. Sometimes we teach them something new. Sometimes they surprise us with just how much they already know. And sometimes Mom gets called out in the process.

Come see the vintage engines, learn the history behind the 1927 building, and meet the volunteers who keep this place running.

Every visitor who walks through station three adds a little more to its story.

Some come for a field trip. Some come because a parent or grandparent once worked here. Some remember when Station 3 was still an active fire station. Some simply wander in because they are curious about the old fire station that they didn't know what a museum they've passed 100 times.

Whatever brings you through our doors we're glad you came.

Station 3 has been a part of Fort Lauderdale's history for nearly 100 years and every person who visits becomes a small part of what comes next.

If you have never visited, this week we are open from 10AM to 2PM and are located at 1022 W. Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale.

You may have driven past Old Station 3 on West Las Olas Blvd without even realizing what's inside. Did you even know it was a fire station?! Some people don't.

This Saturday, August 29, the Fort Lauderdale Fire and Safety Museum will opens its doors from 10 AM to 2 PM for our monthly Open House.

Station 3 has stood on Las Olas since 1927 and the building is just the beginning of the story. Inside, you'll find pieces of Fort Lauderdale's fire service history, including our 1922 American LaFrance pumper, which has been getting quite a bit of attention from visitors lately.

Admission is free thanks to the volunteers who give their time and the visitors who help support the museum through donations.

Fort Lauderdale's Station 3 has been standing since 1927.

That's almost 100 years of doors opening for whoever walked through them, whether that was a firefighter reporting for duty or a family stopping in on a Saturday.

Every piece has a story about how firefighters worked before radios, before modern trucks, before a lot of what we take for granted today.
