Join artists featured in 'Close to Home' for a roundtable exploring the relationships, communities, and shared experiences that shape their creative practices.

The exhibition brings together artists from across South Florida whose work draws from intimate connections—including romantic partnerships, chosen family, kinship, friendship, artistic collaboration, ancestral lineage, and remembrance. Together, these works reveal how personal relationships can become powerful sources of creative expression.

Moderated by the exhibition’s curators Bonnie Clearwater, Director and Chief Curator; Ariella Wolens, Bryant-Taylor Curator; and Sinaí Rivera, Guest Curator, the conversation will offer an opportunity to hear directly from the artists about their work, personal histories, and the communities that inform their practices.

The discussion invites audiences to reflect on connection, vulnerability, and the ways shared experiences can shape the artmaking process.

Join us for an evening of music, performance, and art as we celebrate 'Close to Home', on view through October 4, 2026. Artist Richard Moreno will be performing live with Peter Colombo at NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale as part of Free First Thursday.

Drawing from South Florida’s landscapes, sounds, and darker visual culture, Moreno brings together heavy metal, swampy landscapes, gothic imagery, sculpture, and experimental sound in an immersive performance that transforms the museum space through sound and movement.

Free Admission on 9/11

Twenty-five years later, we remember.

On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced an unimaginable tragedy, one that forever changed countless lives and left an enduring mark on our collective memory.

This September 11, NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale invites our community to reflect on that history through 'Joel Meyerowitz: Aftermath', a powerful exhibition documenting Ground Zero in the months following the attacks. Museum admission is free all day.

Meyerowitz’s photographs do more than record destruction. They bear witness to the extraordinary acts of courage, service, sacrifice, and perseverance that followed. Across these images, we see a place transformed, from devastation toward recovery, and the people who came together to begin the difficult work of healing.

Art can help us remember. It can preserve what must not be forgotten, create space for reflection, and remind us of our capacity to stand together in the face of profound loss.

On this 25th anniversary, we honor those who lost their lives, those who lost loved ones, the survivors, and the first responders, recovery workers, volunteers, and communities whose courage shaped the aftermath.

We remember. We reflect. We honor.
