We had a beautiful Tuesday Night Live Owl Walk event last night! Big thanks to our partners at the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, the City of Fort Collins Natural Areas and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who presented fascinating facts, answered questions and led us into the woods to seek our fine, feathery friends. What luck! By listening closely and keeping (kinda) quiet, we sighted a Great Horned Owl in about 15 minutes! No pics, it was dark and you really had to be there. ;^)

The Owl Walk was part of our Tuesday Night Live series of events in support of our current special exhibition, Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity. For a full list of future Tuesday Night Live events please visit: https://fcmod.org/skin-bias/

See you here!

In celebration of Día de Mu***os, FCMoD is excited to welcome back mini altars created and shared by members of the community, where death does not represent an absence but a living presence. Come visit us from Oct. 29 until Nov. 18 and celebrate the remembrances of those who are no longer physically with us. ✨

Q: Which fish's skin can pump salt ions into or out of its' body so that it can live in both fresh and salt water?

A: Salmon! Salmon are anadromous fish, this means that they hatch in freshwater, live the majority of their lives in the saltwater ocean and migrate back to the freshwater to spawn.

Come check out Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity this weekend and learn so much more about the incredible properties of skin throughout the animal world!

Pro tip: Stop by at 10am to catch Meet the Animals and explore scales vs. fur vs feathers with live animals from our Animal Encounter Exhibit.

Closing thought: Yes, that is a rhino, not a salmon. No spoilers!

We had a a frightfully good time at Monthly Member Night this weekend! Pumpkin decorating, a costume party, "Science, It's Alive!" and a very special visit from our friends at the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program made for many "hauntingly" great memories. We also crept through the archives, dipped into the dome for karaoke and enjoyed full access to our current exhibit Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity.

Monthly Member Nights are one of our favorite perks here at the museum! If you want to learn more about Membership please visit https://fcmod.org/membership/

Membership can pay for itself in just 2.5 visits. Come join the fun!

Big Thanks to the record-setting crowd of 1,046 who joined us for the Teen Self Care Fair! From skateboards to long swords and volleyball with the CSU Women's volleyball team, we had a blast! More than 30 partners tabled and talked about mental health & wellness. Young musicians played outdoors in the Big Back Yard and filmmakers from the Youth Documentary Academy screened films in the Otterbox Digital Dome Theater. This may be one of our favorite days of the year.

Thanks to our partners at the Alliance for Su***de Prevention and to our friends at Larimer Country Health & Behavioral Services for making this a free day! Thanks for coming out and supporting. See you next year!

(ad) Fort Collins Museum of Discovery will open two amazing special exhibitions this fall and winter as they present Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity (Oct 12, 2024 – January 26, 2025) and The Bias Inside Us (November 27th – December 31st).

Both exhibits are designed to spark dialogue and reflection on human culture and identity through science and history, beginning with Skin which explores the physical, historical, and cultural elements of the human body’s largest organ.

Joining Skin on November 27th, “The Bias Inside Us” features a traveling Smithsonian exhibition that explores how we are wired to experience bias. Through compelling images, hands-on interactives and powerful testimonials, the exhibition unpacks and demystifies the concept of bias. Learn more: https://fcmod.org/skin-bias/

Thanks for the mention Loveland Reporter Herald. Come check out this amazing exhibit, good people!
