The tick tock of a 230-year-old grandfather clock
In April 2024, The 1879 Avery House witnessed a significant homecoming moment.
Back in the 1970s, local historians Ken and Sonje Jessen acquired Franklin Avery's grandfather clock at an estate sale, coinciding with the Avery family's sale of the residence to the City of Fort Collins. The grandfather clock, c. 1790, had been moved from New York to Colorado when the Avery family transplanted in the late 1800s.
Fast forward to April 2024. Ken and Sonje generously donated the cherished grandfather clock to Poudre Landmarks. This act ensured its return to its rightful place inside the historic Avery House.
Since its return, the over 230-year-old grandfather clock was thoroughly cleaned and brought back to working condition by the skilled hands of local clocksmith, Blake Bergersen.
Visitors can now view this antique timepiece that has been transported back to its home, serving as a tangible connection to the Avery family's legacy. The clock, now fully functional, stands as a testament to both historical preservation and skilled craftsmanship.
For more information about open house hours and admission, visit PoudreLandmarks.org.
For a quote on your own clock restoration or repair, contact Blake at (970) 889-1527 or [email protected].
