Exciting day here in our archives! As we continue to celebrate our 50th anniversary and our archivist Ayden has begun to digitize arguably the most valuable artifact in our collection, Mr. Whaley's bank book that notes his 1886 loan to W.C. "BillyDurant and J. Dallas Dort that started the Durant-Dort Carriage Company (the precursor to ). We're doubly excited to see what other transactions Robert Jeremiah Whaley made that same year, as well as hidden gems like the New Bedford Instution for Savings bank draft made out to Billy Durant in 1922 found inside the book during this process. Scanned copies of this loan book are planned to be donated to Crossroads Village for their upcoming America250 timeline exhibit.
