📚 Welcome to Throwback Thursday!

🏫 Bickel School, 1909

Long before yellow school buses became a familiar part of growing up, children in Twin Falls County found all kinds of ways to get to school.

These early “school buses” look a little different from the ones many of us remember! 😄

Did you ride a school bus growing up?
What do you remember most about getting to and from school?

🚌 We’d love to hear your school-day memories! Share a story, tell us what school you attended, or tag someone who might remember.

Mystery Artifact Monday!

😎 Good Morning History Detectives! 🕵️‍♀️

“Howdy Partner”

This is a bit of a different Monday Mystery Artifact. This “cowboy” is hanging out in the museum welcoming all to “take a look around”. We’ve been told he hung out on Highway 93 at one time, but we don’t have any concrete history on where he came from.

So, if you can shed any light, please comment below. In the meantime, stop in and say “howdy”.

Welcome to Throwback Thursday!

🚗 Nelson-Jenkins Chevrolet
📍 313 Main Ave West, Twin Falls

🏛️ The building at 319 Main Avenue West was built in 1910 by Gooding Motor Company to be used as an auto garage and sales center and was used as an auto dealership from 1917 to 1970.

Olof Nelson & Glen G. Jenkins bought the building in 1930, and Glen Jenkins bought Mr. Nelson out in 1934. Mr. Jenkins ran the business until health problems in 1936.

Sons Alvin & Glenn E. took over the business until they sold it to Ace Hansen on Nov. 1,1970. Ace Hansen moves to a 1654 Blue Lakes Blvd. location in 1972, naming the business Ace Chevrolet.

In 1972, 💐 Julie’s Flowers & Gifts and 🛞 Twin Falls Tire Service Inc. occupied the building. It was purchased and used by the Times News in 1978 as a newsprint storage and office facility, and was extensively remodeled in 2001.

🏛️ It’s great to see old buildings maintained and being used!

Now you know more about a piece of Twin Falls County history!

👇 Does anyone care to guess the cost of a Chevrolet in 1970? 🚗

Welcome to Throwback Thursday!
🚂 Buhl Train Station
📍 Buhl Idaho

🚋 The historic train station building in Buhl, Idaho, was originally built in 1908 following the founding of the city in 1906. The train station facility was constructed along US-30 to handle local passenger and freight traffic.

Named after major investor Frank H. Buhl, the station served the growing agricultural and transit needs of the Magic Valley region during the early 20th-century irrigation and railroad boom. 🍎🌽🌾

🚂 The service, called trains 49 and 50, made daily runs between Pocatello and Buhl. By 1969, the passenger service was discontinued due to loosing revenue, and the last passenger train to stop in Buhl departed on January 4, 1970.

🍕 The historic structure has been preserved and transformed into Train Station Pizza, a family-owned restaurant operating for over 35 years that features a dedicated "Hall of Freedom" honoring local veterans and service members.

Now you know more about a piece of Twin Falls County history!
