Happy Birthday, Thomas Hardy!
Thomas Hardy was born 186 years ago, on the morning of June 2, 1840, he was an English novelist and poet.
Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde were highly critical of Victorian society and the tragic struggle of humanity against the working class and the downtrodden.

Colleen McCullough was born on this day, June 1, 1937. She was an Australian author best-known for The Thorn Birds, which sold 30 million copies, and the Masters of Rome series, which was a thoroughly researched fictionalised account of Julius Caesar’s Rome. She was known for her diverse genres and meticulously researched historical fiction. ‘McCullough was named a “living treasure” by the National Trust of Australia in 1997 and appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2006.
