Project Rewind-Talbot County: Hard to believe this Howard’s Furniture Store building had a corn field behind it! An addition to this furniture store was later added to the right side of the building. Do you remember what year a new Howard’s Furniture Store was built where the Easton Plaza is on Marlboro Avenue? What did this building become when Howard’s Furniture Store left this location? At the present time the Mid-Shore Surgical Eye Center at 8420 Ocean Gateway in Easton, Maryland occupies this building. Photo from the Talbot Historical Society’s Laird Wise Collection. Project Rewind- Talbot County: This photo from the Talbot Historical Society’s H. Robins Hollyday Collection looks like a vehicle hybrid of an out west stage coach and an early automobile! But research identifies the Tipo 8A Imperial Landaulet as being built by ,Isotta Fraschini, Milan, Italy’s luxury car manufacturer in the late 1920’s and 1930’s! Project Rewind-Talbot County: The line of parked automobiles date this picture of Bellevue, Maryland’s W. H. Valliants Packing Plant! Maybe the early 1920’s? Could the line of cars be that long waiting for the ferry or possibly they belong to the workmen at the Packing Plant? People of Talbot: Solomon Barrott

He was just 16 years old when he joined the fight for American independence.

Solomon Barrott (1763–1851), known as the "Little Drummer Boy," served in the Maryland Line during the Revolutionary War, participating in significant battles through the British surrender at Yorktown.

Following the war, Barrott returned to Easton, where he became a respected member of the community. He lived to be 88 years old and is remembered as the last surviving member of the Maryland Line.

Today, he rests at Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton.

On Saturday, October 24, his service will be recognized during a special grave-marking and wreath-laying ceremony at approximately 9:45 a.m., following the patriotic parade from the Talbot County Courthouse.

The ceremony will conclude with a three-volley musket salute by the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard.

On Wednesday, October 28, join MCHC for an exclusive first look at two new exhibitions celebrating the artistry, craftsmanship, and traditions of Maryland’s historic folk art makers.

Guest curated by Luke Zipp, "Glazed & Flowered: Stoneware Potters of Early Baltimore" brings together about 50 of the finest examples of early Baltimore stoneware from museum and private collections, including jars, crocks, and other utilitarian forms by the city’s premier nineteenth-century makers, to illustrate the distinctive Baltimore style. "Decoys of the Chesapeake," guest curated by Henry Stansbury and C. John Sullivan, draws from their extraordinary collections and features over 175 works by master carvers, painters, and watermen, whose work shaped the cultural landscape of the Chesapeake Bay through historic decoys, paintings, sporting artifacts. Together, these exhibitions celebrate the skill, creativity, and enduring legacy of the people who transformed everyday objects into works of art.
