Project Rewind-Talbot County: Do you remember this Idlewild Ave. School building? Easton High School on Idlewild Ave. opened in 1929 and was Easton High School through 1954. It served Easton elementary grade pupils until 1980. The building was later demolished and our beautiful Idlewild Park is there now! Facts: “ Easton Album” by Norman Harrington 1986. Historic Walking Tours
Saturday September 12, 2026

This one-hour walking tour invites you to discover the rich past of Easton by exploring its historic buildings and cultural landscape as they have evolved over the past 250 years. Along the way, you will learn about the people, stories, and events that shaped the town and county from the mid-eighteenth century to the present day.

First tour: Starts at 11am

Second tour: Starts at 12pm

FREE TO THE PUBLIC
We always accept donations

The tour guide will take you to various buildings within the historic district of downtown and explain the importance of the buildings in Easton's history.

On Saturday, September 26th, the Talbot County Community will come together once again to honor the life and legacy of Frederick Douglass. This year's celebration marks the 15th anniversary of Frederick Douglass Day and the statue of Douglass outside the County Courthouse. See below for a schedule of events:

10am- Frederick Douglass Day Parade from Easton Elementary to Talbot County Courthouse

10:30am- Welcome Ceremony at Talbot County Courthouse

11am- Marketplace at West and Dover Street

11:30am- Children's Village at Talbot County Free Library front lawn

1pm- Entertainment Stage at West and Dover Street

1pm- Frederick Douglass Lecture by Damon Root, senior editor at Reason magazine

3pm- Harriette Lowery speech at BAAM Center

3pm- Walking tour of "The Hill" neighborhood with Yvonne Freeman

Project Rewind-Talbot County: This photo is from the Talbot Historical Society’s Donald Davis Casson Collection that was donated in 2024 by his sons Richard and Don Casson Jr. . In 1948 Don Casson b. 1929 d. 2019 began active duty with the United States Navy and earned his Naval Aviator Wings in June 1950. He loved flying and later owned a Citabria airplane which he flew all over the Eastern Shore and took many aerial photos during his flights. Don was a CPA in Easton, Maryland . This is a photo he took of the construction ground work done on the Walmart Shopping site off of Elliott Road in Easton, Maryland! This picture of the students in the Chapel District School in 1893 was donated to the Talbot Historical Society by Lula May Weller. Her father, Oscar Sinclair is third from the right on the back row. Loyalty and Zeal: Algonkians of the Revolution  (1774-1783)

Location: Talbot County Free Library, Easton

Join Drew Shuptar- Rayvis, citizen of the Pocomoke Indian Nation, to honor the contributions, struggles and sacrifices made by Algonkian peoples during the War of American Independence. Explore the unique material culture and trade objects of Algonkian and Iroquoian people during the Revolution. Navigate the complex political paths of patriotism, Toryism and neutrality trod by Algonkian and Iroquoian people as they worked to preserve their way of life in the face of overwhelming odds. Consider both the devastation of the Sullivan Campaign and the contributions to the shape of history made by numerous Algonkian people, both patriot and loyalist.

This is presented by the Talbot Historical Society in partnership with the Talbot County Free Library and will take place at the library located at 100 W. Dover St., Easton, MD 21601.

The lecture is free to the public, seating is limited, so arriving early will help ensure a seat.
