The True Black History Museum was honored to participate in the Sound Mind Sound Body National College Showcase at Wayne State University, impacting more than 2,000 student-athletes from across the country, along with dozens of college football coaches. TBHM proudly exhibited โ€œA Tribute to the African American Journeyโ€ and debuted our newest exhibit, โ€œCommanding The Huddle: A Tribute to African American Quarterbacks.โ€

On this day in 1966, Bill Russell shattered barriers by becoming the first Black head coach in the NBA while still an active player. A dominant force on the court and a transformative leader off it, Russell didnโ€™t just win, he redefined what leadership looked like. He was inducted as a player into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1975, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest ever to do it. Today, we honor player and coach Bill Russell.
