October 17, 1952 - Student’s Neck Is Broken As Blowout Wrecks Car
"A passenger in a westbound car suffered a broken neck Friday night on the Andes-Delhi road as a front-tire blowout sent the vehicle careening across the highway into a stump. The driver and two other occupants were also injured, but not as seriously.
"Robert Coe, 20, of Oswego, a student at Delhi State institute, was reported in fair condition at Delhi hospital. He is suffering paralysis of the arms and legs, as a result of the neck injury. Dr. Orin Q. Flint who attended the injured in the accident said the outcome of Mr. Coe’s injuries cannot be determined for several days.
"The 1937 car was owned and operated by Francis Brown, 41, of Delhi, who suffered broken ribs and multiple cuts and bruises.
"Charles Thomas McBride, 51, was cut severely about the head, face and hands when he was thrown against the windshield. His son, John M. McBride, 16, also was cut about the head, face and hands. The younger McBride was in the back seat with Mr. Coe."
