Milton E. Pinney brought the first stamp mill to Black Hills in 1876. He purchased the 10-stamp mill in Colorado. It was transported by train to Cheyenne, Wyoming, before completing the final leg to Central City by mule freight. Construction of the mill was completed on December 31, 1876.
