This week in the gardens it was pretty quiet, and some plants are starting to wane (though it's still beautiful- come for a tour!).

And we had a royal guest - a monarch butterfly! ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿ‘‘

Did you know these fluttering friends weigh less than a paperclip but have a multigenerational migration span up to 3,000 miles?

Nature is amazing!

The McDowell discussed below in "McDowell Family Record" by Mary K. McDowell was our Dr. Ephraim McDowell's grandfather, for whom he was named.

That's quite a description - a nearly seven feet tall, rumored supernatural centenarian (nevermind the "terrible countenance!").

Want to know more? We have the complete 17 page McDowell Family Record for sale now at Constitution Square Visitors Center & Gift Shop!

Any stamp collectors out there? ๐Ÿ“ฎ๐Ÿ“ฌ๐Ÿ›ƒ๐Ÿ“ญโœ‰๏ธ๐Ÿ“จ

We have Dr. McDowell stamps issued in the 1950s, some with "first day of issue" postmarks and affixed to commemorative envelopes at Constitution Square Visitors Center & Gift Shop.

Sales support our museum and its mission to educate and inspire guests about the life and achievements of Dr. McDowell! :)

Have you seen these signs on U.S. 150 between Perryville and Danville designating that stretch as Jane Todd Crawford Trail? ๐Ÿ›ฃ๏ธ

Though of course the road and its scenery look much different today, it's thought to be along the 60-mile path Jane traveled on horseback from her home in Green County to Danville in December 1809 to seek help from Dr. Ephraim McDowell for her painful and massive ovarian tumor. ๐ŸŽ

Remember Jane and her bravery against all odds the next time you travel on this route! ๐Ÿค”

Want to learn more about the fascinating history behind the sign? Visit McDowell House Museum and Apothecary - tickets are available online www.mcdowellhouse.com or at Constitution Square Visitors Center & Gift Shop during regular business hours.

Guided tours of the museum are given at 11:15 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday.

School, seniors, scouting and community group tours are also welcomed!
