SLATE: Hard Edge Triangle Painting No. 1–5 (2015) is part of a series Moreno used to explore the formal language of painting through color, composition, and geometry. Using the triangle as a single repeating element, he transforms each surface in different ways, creating compositions that shift from orderly to chaotic to spatial.

As a red-green colorblind artist, Moreno approaches color with a uniquely thoughtful system, carefully balancing brightness, tone, and contrast. For one work, he even assigned colors to the numbers of a die and rolled it to make random selections, describing the process as less visual, and more systematic.

HOW TO MOVE A MONUMENT ON A TUESDAY MORNING
A solo show by Iván Argote ()

Dallas Contemporary is proud to share about our next solo exhibition, How to Move a Monument on a Tuesday Morning, by visual artist Iván Argote (b Bogotá, 1983). The exhibition brings together sculpture and moving image to explore how monuments shape history, memory, and public space.

Central to the exhibition is Levitate, a three-channel video installation revisiting the removal of colonial-era monuments in Rome, Madrid, and Paris, reflecting on migration, identity, and the shifting meaning of historical symbols. Alongside this, Argote introduces new works, including a sculpture from his Wild Flowers series, where fragments of historic figures are reimagined as living forms, and pieces from his Print series, which blend painting and sculpture through concrete, text, and bronze. Together, these works challenge traditional monuments, transforming them from fixed symbols of authority into dynamic, evolving narratives.

Argote’s work will also serve as the inspiration for Dallas Contemporary’s 2026 Gala, further extending the exhibition’s themes into an immersive celebration of art, culture, and community.

We are thrilled to announce the inspiration behind this year’s Gala—celebrated Colombian artist Iván Argote (), who will also be the subject of Dallas Contemporary’s upcoming solo exhibition, opening September 2026.

Each of this year’s Co-Chairs, Catalina Gonzalez Jorba (), Ramiro Garcia (), and Peter Augustus Owen (), has long been a pillar of Dallas Contemporary and a passionate force within the Dallas arts community, championing artists and shaping the city’s cultural landscape.

In a recent conversation, they shared their vision for an immersive evening inspired by a 1950s Latin American revival, where art, design, music, and movement come together in celebration of culture and community. Drawing from Argote’s powerful and thought-provoking practice, the Gala will be vibrant, transportive, and deeply intentional.

We had the most beautiful afternoon at The Reveal Gala Luncheon this past Friday and are thrilled to share that Catalina Gonzalez Jorba (), Ramiro Garcia (), and Peter Augustus Owen () will serve as Co-Chairs for the 2026 Gala on Saturday, September 26.

From the first glimpse of this year’s vision to the energy felt throughout the room, it was incredibly special to gather in anticipation of what’s ahead for Dallas Contemporary.

Inspired by a 1950s Latin American revival and the work of honorary artist Iván Argote, this year’s celebration will be immersive, vibrant, and deeply rooted in culture, movement, and community.
