Pumpkin flavor this, pumpkin flavor that... let’s add some spice to September at the DMA! 🍂

Here’s what’s happening this month:

Art in Thirty (Friday, September 4 & Friday, September 18 | Noon–12:30 p.m.) FREE: In a hurry? For September, curator Dr. Jaqueline Chao, the DMA’s Cecil and Ida Green Curator of Asian Art, is giving two gallery talks on Samurai to the Imperial Court: Japanese Metalwork (September 4) and Paradise on Earth: Florals in Indian Textiles (September 18). Learn something new in just 30 minutes—for free!

Late Night at the Museum (Friday, September 4 | 7–11 p.m.) PAID EVENT: We’re kicking off the Late Night season with Visit Dallas and throwing the biggest after-hours party at the DMA (yet). Get your tickets before they sell out! This season, your ticket includes access to the ENTIRE Museum. That’s four floors of art, activities, and DJs turning up the night to a 10. New VIP tickets with EXTRA perks are available, but limited. View the link in our bio for more details.

Closing Talk | Samurai to the Imperial Court (Saturday, September 5 | 2–3 p.m.) PAID EVENT ($5 for non-members | FREE for members): A fan favorite this year is leaving! Joe Earle, the Bonhams Global Senior Consultant for Japanese Art, is giving a closing talk for this special exhibition. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear from an expert and supplement your last visit with his remarks.

DMA FREE First Sundays | Access for All (Sunday, September 6 | 11 a.m.–5 p.m.) FREE: There’s no catch—we open our doors to you every first Sunday of the month this year. Come down to the DMA and explore all four floors of our permanent galleries, as well as special exhibitions, at no cost. We’ll see you here!

Center for Creative Connections (C3) Reopening (Saturday, September 19 & Sunday, September 20 | 11 a.m.–5 p.m.) FREE: Presented by PNC Bank, step inside our newly renovated 10,000-square-foot space built for hands-on creating and curiosity. The center is reopening with our newest exhibition, Rhythms on Repeat. Stop by for a full weekend of live music, art, and special artist talks—all FREE.

Color Vision Deficiency Awareness Month (Saturday, September 26 & Sunday, September 27 | Noon–3 p.m.) FREE: Learn more about Color Vision Deficiency (CVD), more commonly known as “color blindness,” and try out our EnChroma® color-correcting glasses. These glasses enhance hues for individuals with red-green type CVD, allowing them to experience an entire color spectrum.

In loving memory of Yayoi Kusama (1929–2026), whose works invited the world to experience the infinite wonders of the universe through her eyes.

Kusama often spoke of her muse, the pumpkin, as a self-portrait that reflected her own spirit. Inspired by her own childhood memories of kabocha squash growing near her home and their whimsical shape, the pumpkin became a recurring motif in her work.

The Dallas Museum of Art is immensely proud to have in our collection her spectacular infinity mirror room "All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins" (2016), preserving the evolution of her transcendent vision.

Today, we celebrate her life and the enduring light of her art. And the next time you see a pumpkin, remember Kusama.

New trees on the block! 🌳

The Dallas Museum of Art is a little greener this summer thanks to a generous donation from the Texas Trees Foundation and Downtown Dallas, Inc.

As they put down roots and grow alongside our community, we thought they deserved honorary names. 👀

Now through Sunday, July 19, Sideline on Eagle Family Plaza is your summer stop at the DMA. Serving frozen treats, refreshing drinks, music, lawn games, and plenty to enjoy between World Cup matches.

Sports and art collide at the DMA! On Sunday, July 12, join Emmy Award-winning sports analyst and author LJ Rader for a fascinating look at "Art But Make It Sports," where iconic moments from sports history are paired with their fine art doppelgängers.
