Reflectionism began with knowledge passed from one hand to the next, from Liz Richardson to JD Miller, and grew into a movement shaped by texture, light, intention, and perception.

For the first time, the nine founding Reflectionist artists will be presented together at Samuel Lynne Galleries:

JD Miller, Philip Romano, Sharon Virts, Lea Fisher, Tanner Lawley, Renea Menzies, Carrie Cameron, Kelly Steller Hrad, and Sue Yu Petty.

The Train Robbery, styled Yarrow found the one stretch of track where the river sits just five feet below the rails, close enough to let it enter the frame.

Throwback to “Wandering Hands” — Brandon Boyd’s sold-out 2024 exhibition at Samuel Lynne Galleries.

Best known for the voice of Incubus, Boyd has been making visual art since childhood. His body of work explores the nature of line, explosive, tangled strokes with something quieter sitting underneath.

The room was packed opening night. The work didn’t last long after.

In 1997, JD Miller traded his paintbrush for a palette knife. He hasn’t gone back since. 🎨

His early years were spent studying ceramics, and that hands-on relationship with form followed him into painting. He started sculpting oil paint straight onto the canvas, building it up in layers by hand instead of brushing it on. That instinct became the technique that now runs through Samuel Lynne Galleries, the gallery he opened with Phil Romano in 2008.

Plenty of galleries turned him down before that. He kept painting anyway. Even the gallery’s name is personal: Samuel is Phil’s son, Lynne is JD’s daughter, Jaime Lynne.
