There is something striking about seeing a wild animal framed by the vast landscape it calls home. This painting of an elk standing among scrubland, with distant mountains stretching across the horizon, captures the quiet grandeur of the American wilderness. The contrast between the animal’s powerful presence and the expansive scenery reminds us of the beauty found in the wild places that remain.

The American Wildlife Art Competition & Exhibition returns to the Arcadian in May 2027, inviting artists from around the world to share their unique perspectives on wildlife and nature. Artwork featuring wildlife from North or South America is eligible for the competition.

Gallery Director Christopher P. Sloan and returning juror Carel Pieter Brest van Kempen, an acclaimed award-winning wildlife artist, bring their expertise and passion for wildlife to this juried exhibition. In support of conservation, the Arcadian will donate 10% of gallery sales proceeds to a conservation cause selected by the juror.

Exhibition Dates: May 7–June 26, 2027

Logan Hartlaub is back for another show! Vanishing Point: Wildlife of Appalachia, a new show celebrating the remarkable wildlife of our region through dozens of meticulously painted miniatures will open November 20.

Following the success of his first Vanishing Point exhibition in winter 2025, Hartlaub returns with an expanded collection inspired by the wildlife found throughout Appalachia. Birds remain at the heart of his work, reflecting Hartlaub's enduring passion for them, but this year’s exhibition reaches beyond the treetops to explore an even wider range of local wildlife, including salamanders, opossums, fish, insects, and even elk.

Join us at Arcadian Gallery for the opening reception on Friday, November 20, from 6 to 8 PM and experience this captivating new collection. This exhibit will run November 21 through January 2.

Explore Appalachian fauna through the eyes of a biologist in these miniature paintings, offering an intimately detailed view of this region's incredible creatures.

Just two weeks to bring a beautiful moment in nature into your home! Some of nature’s most beautiful moments happen just before a transformation is complete. In this photograph, a poppy remains nestled within its protective sepals, with only a hint of color beginning to emerge. It is a quiet glimpse of the anticipation before the petals unfurl and the flower reveals its full brilliance.

The International Nature Photography Competition Exhibition features more than 80 juried photographs selected by our juror, National Geographic photographer Brian Skerry. From the delicate promise of a poppy preparing to bloom to remarkable wildlife, sweeping landscapes, and fleeting moments captured around the globe, each photograph invites us to discover the extraordinary beauty hidden in nature’s smallest details.

Happy Halloween!

We will be closed on Saturday, October 31st, so our team can celebrate. We are open for regular business hours on October 29th and 30th this week, and we'll reopen for our normal hours next week on Thursday November 5th.

With its towering cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and lush green valley, Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland is often associated with the landscapes that inspired J.R.R. Tolkien’s vision of Rivendell, the Elven refuge in The Lord of the Rings. Its otherworldly beauty makes it easy to imagine a hidden realm nestled among the mountains.
