The Bob Ihsen Scholarship Award

Tonight, we were proud to honor the legacy of Bob Ihsen, whose dedication to education and local history left a lasting impact on our community. Bob served as president of the Covina Valley Historical Society for 30 years, leading with passion, knowledge, and a deep commitment to preserving the history of Covina. He also devoted more than 30 years to teaching at Covina High School, where he inspired generations of students both inside and outside the classroom.

Bob believed strongly in education, community involvement, and encouraging young people to appreciate the past while building the future. In that spirit, we are honored to award two scholarships in his name this year. We congratulate both students and hope they carry forward the same curiosity, dedication, and love of learning that Bob shared with so many throughout his life.

This event brings to life a pivotal moment in local history—when a proposed sewage farm sparked a civic battle that ultimately led to the incorporation of West Covina in 1923.

It’s not just history… it’s civic dialogue, community identity, and a little friendly rivalry between neighbors.

Would love to see both Covina and West Covina residents come out and support—this is one of those events that really connects the past to what we’re still dealing with today.

Join the Covina Valley Historical Society this Saturday, February 21, 2026, as we honor two men who meant so much to our organization: President Bob Ihsen and Vice President Fred Feldheim.

We will gather in the hall at Holy Trinity Church of Covina from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
