A Nation Pays Tribute

Today, at Stella Maris Catholic Church in Kingston, Jamaica, family, friends, members of the judiciary, government officials, the legal fraternity, and countless admirers gathered to celebrate the remarkable life of Hon. Justice Ian Xavier Forte, OJ, CD, KC.

Justice Forte devoted decades of distinguished service to Jamaica’s legal system. Rising to become President of the Court of Appeal, he helped shape the administration of justice through his integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to the rule of law. His service extended beyond Jamaica as a Judge of Appeal in both the Cayman Islands and the Turks and Caicos Islands, reflecting the respect he earned throughout the Caribbean.

Today’s service was a fitting tribute to a man whose life embodied justice, dignity, humility, and public service. May his legacy continue to inspire future generations of lawyers, judges, and all who believe in the enduring importance of fairness and justice.

Rest in Peace, Hon. Justice Ian Xavier Forte.

Today, Maroon House pauses to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Oswald Gaskell “Ossie” Harding, OJ, CD, KC (1935–2026)—statesman, scholar, attorney, educator, philosopher, patron of the arts, and one of Jamaica’s most distinguished public servants.

Dr. Harding dedicated his life to the service of Jamaica, not only through law and public office, but through education, culture, and the pursuit of knowledge. His contributions helped shape our nation’s legal and political institutions while inspiring generations of students, colleagues, and citizens.

Those who knew him speak not only of his remarkable accomplishments, but of his integrity, humility, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to principle. In an age where public life often measures success by power, Dr. Harding reminded us that the truest measure of leadership is character.

As a member of our extended family, his passing is deeply personal. As Jamaicans, his legacy belongs to us all.

May we continue to build a nation worthy of the example he set.

Rest in eternal peace, Cousin Ossie.

Your life’s work will continue to inspire generations yet unborn.

Conversations That Shape Culture: Mark Cameron & Hon. Oliver Mair | Island Space Caribbean Museum 🌺

Culture does not survive by accident.

It survives because artists create.
Because storytellers remember.
Because institutions preserve.
And because communities gather to share what matters.

This moment from Art & Appetizers brought together art, memory, conversation, and national identity in a dialogue exploring the role culture plays in shaping who we are and where we are going.

Featuring Hon. Oliver Mair, Consul General of Jamaica, and presented through the lens of the Maroon House Digital Museum, this is part of an ongoing effort to preserve the voices, stories, and creative legacies that define the Caribbean experience.

Every painting tells a story.
Every conversation leaves a record.
Every generation becomes an archive.
