As we continue the organization of our collection, we find new hidden treasures almost daily. Todayโ€™s is a ledger from the Whitaker Family from 1826!

Charles S. Whitaker was in charge of this particular ledger, recording sales of butter, a brush and a hymn book, among other things.

We are so grateful for all of the donors over the years who have donated pieces of Conway history to be preserved for the future.

A little history on the origins of Memorial Day ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Since 1971, Memorial Day has been observed on the last Monday of May.

However, the roots of Memorial Day, then known as Decoration Day, date back to the Civil War era. Local commemorations, the first of which were organized by women and African Americans, involved laying flowers on the graves of soldiers who perished during the war.
