The Smith & Wesson Model 41 was introduced in 1957 after slow development that lasted nearly a decade. Our example was manufactured in 1967 and later adapted for an optic. The attached optic, the Aimpoint 1000, is a reflex collimator red dot sight that launched in 1987 as an improvement on the Mark III. It was mounted via a Weaver rail, and featured adjustments of 1/4 inch at 100 meters, and nine brightness settings.

The Wi******er Model 50, introduced in 1954, was Wi******er's third self-loading sh***un and the first to see commercial success. This example was embellished by Arnold Griebel, a prominent German-born engraver working in Chicago during the mid-20th Century. This fi***rm is featured in our new catalog "Wi******er: The American Legend 160 Years in the Making" now available in the museum gift store.

This blueprint from Wi******er's ill-fated 1911 pistol contract that our curator Danny is showcasing, is one of the many engineering drawings that can be found in our upcoming book "Drawing Fire: Drawings from the Wi******er Collection", which is being done in conjunction with the McCracken Research Library at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West and published by Helios House Press. This C**t Model 1903 was issued to Brigadier General Melvin I. Bookman on 5 August 1970. Bookman was the commanding officer of the 377th Support Brigade of the US Army Reserve headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana during the Vietnam War. This sidearm is unique for our collection since the donation also included all of the accessories, packaging, and documentation that was issued with it from Rock Island Arsenal and US Army Weapons Command. This is a Model 1883 Hotchkiss r***e chambered in .45-70 and manufactured by Wi******er in 1885. The 1883 was the third iteration of Hotchkiss produced by Wi******er. This example was engraved by Conrad Ulrich, one of Wi******er’s factory engravers and a member of the famous Ulrich engraving family. According to the factory records this r***e was showcased at a number of expositions by Wi******er throughout the 1880s and 90s.
