In celebration of our Nation's 250th Birthday and Independence Day July 4, 2026, The Cody Heritage Museum created a local "Field of Honor". This incorporated over 500 United States Flags. This celebration allowed Park County Residents the opportunity to sign up for a free flag that was flown as part of the "Field of Honor". If you signed up for a flag and have not picked one up, you may still do so during regular business hours at the Cody Heritage Museum (1902 Sheridan Ave., 10-4 Tues. - Sat. and Noon - 4pm Sunday).

On July 4th, at the Cody Heritage Museum, a 48 star flag in honor of Paul R. Greever was flown. The Flag is provided by John B. Greever. The now 89-year old flag covered the casket of Paul R. Greever, his grandfather, who was laid to rest in February 1943. The comments below were made at the flag raising ceremony by John regarding his grandfather's service to our Nation, State, Cody Community, and more. These comments reflect the heritage of many who have served and sacrificed on our behalf. The Flag is flown each July 4th at the Museum.

This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, approved by the Second Continental Congress in 1776. When Cody was established 120 years later, local Fourth of July celebrations became an important community tradition that evolved into our historic Cody Stampede Rodeo and fantastic parades.

CHM board member Jenny Zink secured a grant for more than 500 U.S. flags for a display along Sheridan Avenue this June. If you are interested in helping with the flag display, please see the flyer below. To sign up for a free flag, visit the Cody Heritage Museum at 1092 Sheridan Avenue. An opening ceremony for the community flag display, featuring live music by the Alte Kameraden Band, will be held on the Park County Courthouse lawn on June 14 at 1:00 p.m.
