We’re just one month away from opening for the season!

In the meantime, our online museum shop is open year-round. If you’re looking for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift ideas, consider a custom-engraved paver in our Heritage Garden. Two lines of personalized text are $225 or three lines for $235. It's a great way to honor someone special while supporting the museum.

Cody history question #4: Who is pictured here, wading in the Shoshone River in 1905?

Hints: She was the first County Superintendent of Schools when Park County was brand new. Wapiti School was established under her leadership. Before she ran for office, she took an ocean liner across the Atlantic and traveled solo through Switzerland and Italy. She is the subject of our newest article in the Cody Journal, which will be coming out this Friday!

Cody history question #3: Who is pictured here?

Hints: He came to Cody in 1904 and soon opened his own clothing store with the slogan, "Buy it of ___ ____" [his name]. His historic building is still intact at 1270 Sheridan, and his advertising mural is still visible behind Wyoming Buffalo Company. He was also a community volunteer in the 1930s who planted the trees alongside the Cody High School stadium, sponsored road improvements through Shoshone Canyon, and gave a balloon to every student in the Cody schools each Christmas.

We wish to thank Steven Reich for his generous purchase of our tree "Merry Mixmas" at the Festival of Trees this year! Our museum board and volunteers decorated the tree with a Christmas baking theme and included historic local recipes.

Pictured here, Board Member Jenny Zink and Curator Nic Linn make last minute adjustments before the showing at Cody Regional Health.

On the longest night of the year tonight, the beautifully restored buffalo statue watches over Cody from Cedar Mountain.

From the new placard: "This statue was placed in 1968 to commemorate William F. Cody's intended gravesite atop Cedar Mountain. As Buffalo Bill embodied the spirit of the American West, so too does the buffalo -- now recognized as the national mammal -- symbolize that enduring legacy. In 2025, the statue was restored and rededicated in honor of Dr. Jeremy Johnston."

Selfies aren't just for the modern day. They existed 120 years ago too!

Trivia Question #2: Who took this selfie (circa early 1900s) in her downtown Cody lodgings?

Hints: She was Cody’s first female physician. From 1905–1910, she cared for Shoshone Dam workers and later treated victims of the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic. Writer Caroline Lockhart created a derogatory fictional character based on her, perhaps as a result of jealousy over a romantic rival.

The wind is driving us all crazy lately, so let's do some Cody history trivia again this winter!

First question: Who is pictured here?

Hints: He graduated from Cody High School in 1916, served in World War I, played baseball at the University of Wyoming, and later attended Harvard Law School. Although Cody remained his lifelong home, he devoted himself to public service. He served in the Wyoming House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and as Governor of Wyoming. He worked on the Wyoming Civil Rights Act.
