Clyde Museum & General McPherson House

The museum temporarily closes every year from late November until late March. The Museum is housed in the former Grace Episcopal Church built in 1885-86.

The McPherson House, built in 1834, served as the William and Cynthia McPherson family home and is where Civil War Union Major General James B. McPherson was raised. With the America 250 anniversary in mind, we're pleased to announce that we discovered a third Revolutionary War veteran buried in McPherson Cemetery.
His name was William T. Sargent. He served as a private in Maryland during the Revolution. We are not sure if he served in the Continental Army or in the militia. He also served in the War of 1812. He is buried on the hill where General McPherson's grave is located and is not far from the other two Revolutionary War soldiers buried in McPherson Cemetery, Jacob Daggett and Jacob LeFevre.
With the necessary documentation, we were able to get a brass Revolutionary War flag marker for his grave from the Sandusky County Veterans Services office. We proudly placed it on his grave a couple of weeks ago. We are proud and thankful for all of our veterans, living and passed, from Clyde, Ohio. Thank you for your service!

We want to thank all of those who came out to enjoy a wonderful and relaxing evening of jazz music last evening. The Chris Buzzelli Quartet gave a beautiful performance!

It was a little different this year compared to years past. The group has done mainly instrumentals, but this year two female vocalists were added which performed flawlessly.

Our attendance didn't break any records this month, but approximately 88 wonderful people (coming and going) came out to enjoy some great music and good food.

We have one more concert for the year that will be in September, the date will be posted later, which will be the Gary Meadows Band from the Norwalk area. More information will be posted at a later date.

Thank you again to all who came out and to those who performed!

We are also going to post pictures here of our concert from July with the Jim Sleek & Uptown Country Band. That was a great concert as well with an attendance of 154 people.

TONIGHT is the Concert on the Lawn at the Clyde Museum from 6:00-8:30 p.m.
NO RAIN is forecasted for this evening. The WTOL Toledo 11 forecast calls for temps around 80° and a mostly clear to partly cloudy, quiet evening. Come and join us! We would love to see you!

The "Chris Buzzelli Jazz Quartet" will be performing. We have offered these lawn concerts for four (4) years and have had Chris Buzzelli come every year since we started. This jazz band always draws a good crowd because they are truly spectacular musicians! This year will feature a vocalist with the group. Come and join us for a wonderful and relaxing evening of great soft jazz music!

PLEASE BRING A LAWN CHAIR OR BLANKET FOR SEATING ON THE FRONT LAWN.

Nana's Kitchen food truck will be serving great Mexican food and cold drinks. They have a good selection of menu items and always serve good quality food with excellent service.

As usual, there will be parking in the alleyway parking lots behind the museum (enter from Forest Street), the large parking lot at the corner of W. Buckeye and George Street, the Railroad Street plaza, on-street parking on Main Street, etc.
West Buckeye St. in front of the museum will be CLOSED during the concert.

This past Friday, July 31, was the 83rd anniversary of Pvt. Rodger W. Young's death on Island of New Georgia in the Solomon Islands. Many know the story, during World War II while serving in the 37th Division (Buckeye Division) of the ONG, U.S. Army, he was killed in the line of action by silencing a sniper's nest while simultaneously saving the rest of the men in his platoon from the deadly fire of that Japanese sniper's nest.

As a result of his actions, he was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his extraordinary bravery and ultimate sacrifice.
The same Medal of Honor that was awarded to his family so long ago, is on display in the Clyde Museum as part of our America 250 exhibits.

Please come and visit us to view this unique and significant piece of rare military history.

On the left side of this exhibit is a display for Clyde's other Medal of Honor recipient, Charles H. McCleary, who was awarded this distinctive honor because of actions taken in the Battle of Nashville during the U.S. Civil War.

FYI 😃😁 TONIGHT is our (rescheduled) July Concert on the Lawn.

Jim Sleek and Uptown Country band will be performing from
6:00-8:30 PM.

We will have a large TENT on site for concert goers to sit in a shaded area, if desired.

BRING A LAWN CHAIR OR BLANKET FOR SEATING ON THE LAWN

There will be a food truck on site: the PUB 400 food truck from Fremont will be serving great food and cold drinks! "See menu below."

Plenty of parking close-by the museum. Parking will be available behind the museum in the alleyway parking lots (enter from Forest Street side), the overflow parking lot at the Edward Jones Financial offices at the corner of W. Buckeye and George Street, the Railroad Street Plaza, on-street parking on Main Street, etc.

On this day in 1942, July 30, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed into law an act that established the US Navy's WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) organization.
They played a vital role in the war effort, they primarily served in shore roles that freed up men for active combat at sea. Over 100,000 women served during the course of the war. They took on vital technical, medical, intelligence, administrative positions and etc.
The photos that you see here were the possession of a lady from Clyde by the name of Audrey Hutchinson. She was a WAVE during World War II.

Also, pictured here in this post, are images of one of our new exhibits for 2026 that highlights the history of Ruth Carter Johnson, another lady from Clyde Ohio that was a WASP (Women's Air Force Service Pilots) during World War II. They flew US Army Air Forces aircraft around the country and served as ferry pilots, transporting officers and troops, and flying and moving supplies, weapons, etc.
Both of these exhibits are in the Military Room of the museum that highlights Clyde's history and involvement in World War I, World War II, Vietnam and etc.
