The Ohio village's 150-year-old sulfur spring once soothed 'Superman' actor Christopher Reeve. It still flows 8 million gallons hourly, free to anyone visiting.

Then and Now on the grounds of the Green Springs School.

The current pergola was constructed to restore an original one built as part of the extensive gardens imagined and developed by Mr. Harry C. Gammeter in the early 1900's.

This was at the height of the health spa era at the mineral springs when people flocked to the village. Mr Gammeter believed in loving one another and the beauty of nature and appreciation of the environment. His gardens encouraged wandering and sitting to enjoy the surroundings intended to restore the mind, body, and spirit; a utopia.

The value of his message in the years of the growth of early Green Springs is never to be forgotten.

Good morning on this last Sunday of the month. The museum open hours used to end before school started. These two pics were taken that day just four years ago. Since that time so much has changed. We have a new location, new leadership, and new schedules.

Pictured here with our current treasurer Andrew Jones are Joyce and the late Tom Craig. Also Jeanette Liebold Ricker and Bud Rutherford.

Our open hours today are Sundays noon - 3 and Wednesdays 11 - 2 through December 6th. We are staffed by all volunteers and there is no charge to visit; we operate totally on membership dues and donations. Thankyou for your continued support!

This must be a photo of the first GS Union School. Although the penned note on the back suggests the date to be about 1895; very faint in pencil we see "about 1883."

Another note about this school building is that bricks were made by John Eisenhard at a cost of about $1,100.

When the Union school was remodeled in 1874 a report stated a pole in the middle of the second floor (for support) made for a choice seat. "Here was a choice seat for one couldn't be seen by the teacher."

(The two story Union School is said to have been built in 1852 on Lot 67 West Morgan Street. It burned in 1898. )
