Join us this Saturday for a truly epic milestone – the 50th anniversary of Skylab 3, the mission our Apollo Command Module flew on!

We’re calling it the Splashdown Celebration, because it was 50 years ago this week that our command module returned from the Skylab space station and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean.

To mark this extra special occasion, we are offering free admission as we bring retired astronaut Jack Lousma, the pilot of the command module, to Cleveland to reunite with his spacecraft! Thank you to the Cleveland Council on World Affairs for bringing this amazing group of delegates from Indonesia to visit the Science Center!

The group was part of a U.S. State Department delegation on the topic of Inclusive Education for Students with Disabilities.

During their visit the group learned about the Great Lakes Science Center’s Robotics Initiative, got a museum tour, and learned how the museum provides STEM education to students with disabilities.

We are thrilled to host the 50th anniversary Splashdown Celebration on Saturday, September 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in honor of our Apollo Command Module.

The celebration will feature free general admission for all guests and a visit from retired astronaut and Marine Corps pilot Col. Jack R. Lousma, one of the astronauts who flew the command module.

Guests can hear Lousma recount his experiences during a Capsule Chat at 11 a.m. during the event and greet him during a meet and greet session at 1 p.m.! We can't wait to celebrate this historic milestone with you!

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Dr. Guion “Guy” Bluford’s first mission in space. Dr. Bluford became the first African American to fly in space on August 30, 1983 when NASA’s STS-8 mission lifted off from Kennedy Space Center, taking the space shuttle Challenger and Dr. Bluford into space and into history. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District Great Lakes Science Center Robotics Initiative students have returned from Ecuador and gotten some much needed rest. Our students provided multiple children with new 3-D printed prosthetic limbs and will help 15 more families in the coming weeks. The ground work has also been laid to start a robotics team in Ecuador that will introduce indigenous middle and high school students to STEM. Great Lakes Science Center, home of the NASA Glenn Visitor Center, makes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) come alive for more than 300,000 visitors a year. With hundreds of hands-on exhibits, temporary exhibitions, the Cleveland Clinic DOME Theater, Steamship William G. Mather, daily science demonstrations, seasonal camps and more, guests will always find a reason to Stay Curious! That's a wrap for the 23rd Annual Rock Your World with STEAM!!

While the threat of lightening ended the festival early, the day was still a memorable one. Students shined at the festival. This is the first time in two years it was held in person in front of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Great Lakes Science Center and it was a great day!

Congratulations to the all the amazing students who showcased their talents in the area of music, dance, arts and STEM.

And congrats to the their fabulous teachers who worked all year with the students.

More than 300 students are getting ready to perform on the main stage at the 23rd annual Rock Your World with STEAM Festival!!

It has been an amazing day to see all our students showcase their talents.

The festival will be happening until 3pm in front of the Great Lakes Science Center and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

The 23rd Rock Your World with STEAM event. It is FREE and open to the public. Come down to the lakefront to see our scholars perform on five different stages and showcase their work in the area of STEAM.

Lunch will be provided to CMSD families and they will receive FREE admission to theGreat Lakes Science Center and

We have students' artwork being displayed starting at 9:00 AM in the Art and Music Tent. We have a STEAM table in the STEM Tent. Come visit us at Table 25 to see us.

If you go to the registration table and get your bracelet, you will have FREE admittance to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, Great Lakes Science Center and get a Grab and Go lunch.
