Rosie Justus Kilby (Rachel) churning butter on the porch of her house. She and her husband, Henry Kilby, had a farm on Patterson Gap in the Persimmon area. Their home is on the National Registry of Historic Places. It is one of the earliest surviving farm houses in Rabun County from the late 1800's. It never had electricity, running water or telephone as long as they lived there. In the 1800's just about every home had a milk cow which provided milk & butter products for the family.

Here is another photo view of the York House boarding house. The York House started as a family farm house. After the Tallulah Falls Railroad ran northward near their home, the family started taking in passengers as boarders and they kept adding to the home. This building is now on the National Registry of Historic Places and is used now to house employees of the Edwards Inn in Highlands NC. No date shown, lotsa people on the porches.
