Our September issue is our annual Appalachian history issue. Featuring local history. A fitting cover would be to feature The Primitive Arts of Andrew Lee. With the forest as his craft supply vendor, his work is unique, incredibly detailed, and useful art. Andrew will be teaching a bark basket class at Sunshine & Sawdust on September 12th, 10 AM - 2 PM. Be sure to read his article and follow his work!

A Celebration of Life
for Peter McIntosh
1954–2026

Peter McIntosh had a remarkable way of making people feel like they were his closest friend. And perhaps that was because, to Peter, they truly were.

He was an outdoorsman, an artist, a storyteller, a mentor, a gentleman, and an extraordinarily talented photographer. He showed us the beauty of these mountains through his lens, gave generously—often quietly and without anyone knowing—and left his mark on this community in more ways than we will probably ever know.

But those of us who loved Peter know that his life cannot be summed up by his accomplishments.

Peter was about the people.

So rather than gather simply to mourn his passing, Peter’s family invites his friends to come together and celebrate him—with the things that seem most fitting for a life so well lived:

Love. Laughter. Friendship.
And lots of good stories.

Please join us to raise a glass, share a memory, tell a Peter story (and we know there are some good ones), laugh together, and celebrate the friend who made so many of us feel a little more special simply because we knew him.

There will never be another Peter McIntosh, but there are countless stories, photographs, adventures, friendships and memories that will keep a little bit of him with us.

As The Laurel so beautifully wrote, perhaps Peter’s greatest gift wasn’t what he saw through his lens—“it was the heart behind it.”

Were you touched by that heart? ❤️

Help us celebrate it Saturday afternoon, September 12 near Clayton. Please RSVP via email to [email protected] for details and so we can add you to the guest list.
