Enhancing the life of our surrounding neighborhoods through arts and cultural experiences

Kennedy Heights Arts Center was founded in 2004 by local residents who saved the historic Kennedy mansion (circa 1875) from demolition and transformed it into a thriving community arts center. Twelve years later, we transformed another vacant property, an adjacent former grocery store, into our 10,300 sf Lindner Annex and Studios. Serving a diverse audience of more than 5,000 people annually, KHAC

offers rotating art exhibitions, arts education programs for youth and adults, outreach programs in public schools and libraries, a youth jazz academy, and community events from cultural festivals to music concerts to poetry readings. 100 percent of our programs are accessible to everyone regardless of income.

What memories do you carry with you? What happens when we turn those memories into art?

This Saturday, join artist collaborative Batres Gilvin for a free Community Engagement Workshop inspired by their exhibition Entre Lo Que Fue y Lo Que Es (Between What Was and What Is).

Participants will create sculptural pieces using repurposed Styrofoam, collage materials, artificial flowers, ribbon, and other decorative elements. Each piece will become part of “A Community Altar of Transition,” a temporary collaborative installation reflecting shared experiences of change, loss, resilience, belonging, and hope.

Participants are asked to bring a copy of a family photograph, a written memory, or a story about a meaningful object to incorporate into their artwork.

Join instructor Jenny Caffery for Collage & Create: Handmade Journals, an 8-week hands-on class exploring collage, paper alteration, stitching, layering, and bookmaking techniques. You'll create a one-of-a-kind envelope accordion journal using a curated collection of vintage-inspired papers, ephemera, and decorative materials.

Thursdays, September 17–November 5 | 1–3 PM
Tuition: $180 or sliding scale, materials included

Whether you're an experienced crafter, a journaling enthusiast, or completely new to mixed media, this class is a chance to experiment, play, and develop your own creative style.

This weekend, Cultural Ties opens at Kennedy Heights Arts Center.

Join us Saturday, August 29, from 6–8 PM for the opening of Cultural Ties, an interdisciplinary exhibition exploring Latin American culture, identity, heritage, and representation through photography, mixed media, and film.

Featuring work by Tina Gutierrez, Andrea Sabugo, Ximena Flores, and Rebecca Nava Soto, alongside Sin Vergüenza, a selection of short films curated by Mary Leonard, the exhibition celebrates cultural traditions while challenging stereotypes and assumptions.

Curated by Mallory Feltz, Director of Exhibitions and Public Art, and Mary Leonard, Independent Film Curator.

Enjoy free refreshments and music during the opening reception.

This Saturday, August 22, Kennedy Heights Arts Center welcomes back Myles Ellington Twitty, former Assistant Director of the Cincinnati Jazz Academy, for an evening of music from his debut album, Gentle “Revolutionary.”

Myles moved to New York for graduate school, and we're excited to welcome him back to Kennedy Heights Arts Center for a night of incredible live jazz.

The evening opens at 6 PM with a set led by Cadence Okuwobi, who also recently returned from New York after participating in Carnegie Hall's prestigious NYO Jazz program.

We’re excited to share that Kennedy Heights Arts Center has received two grants from the Ohio Arts Council for FY2027!

Our Sustainability Grant provides general operating support, helping us continue our work bringing accessible arts experiences, education, and opportunities to our community.

We also received an Arts Partnership Grant supporting our arts integration initiative at Woodford Academy. This funding allows us to continue our seven-year partnership with Woodford Academy, where professional artists lead weekly performing arts-based lessons in K–6th grade classrooms. These lessons bring the arts into subjects like science, math, language arts, and social studies, giving students new and creative ways to engage with what they're learning.

We’re grateful to the Ohio Arts Council and the State of Ohio for investing in the arts and supporting the work of arts organizations across Ohio. We’re proud to put this funding to work right here in our community.

On Saturday, August 22, Kennedy Heights Arts Center presents trumpeter, composer, and Cincinnati native Myles Ellington Twitty and his quintet performing music from his debut album, Gentle “Revolutionary.”

The evening begins at 6 PM with an opening set led by 16-year-old Cincinnati jazz bassist and Kennedy Heights Arts Center Jazz Academy student Cadence Okuwobi, followed by the Myles Ellington Twitty Quintet at 6:30 PM.

Featuring Myles Ellington Twitty on trumpet, Josh Kline on tenor saxophone, Keigo Hirakawa on piano, Cadence Okuwobi on bass, and James Gaiters on drums.

Myles has performed alongside some of today’s most respected jazz musicians and at venues including Carnegie Hall, Birdland, The Jazz Gallery, and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Now, he brings his own music home to Cincinnati.

What does it mean to exist between what was and what is?

In this recent feature on Cincinnati Public Radio’s Cincinnati Spotlight, our Director of Exhibitions and Public Art, Mallory Feltz, shares more about Entre Lo Que Fue y Lo Que Es (Between What Was and What Is) by artist collaborative Batres Gilvin and the ideas of memory, identity, family history, and transformation that shape the exhibition.

Join us on Saturday, September 5, from 1–3 PM for a free Community Engagement Workshop with Batres Gilvin. Participants will create artwork inspired by personal memories and experiences that will become part of a collaborative installation within the exhibition.

And just like that, another incredible season of Play in the Park Cincinnati has come to a close. 🌳☀️

Our finale was a fun celebration, with live Brazilian music from Estrada do Sol, energetic performances by Cincy Brazil Samba Dance, delicious food, hands-on activities, and neighbors of all ages coming together for one last summer evening in Kennedy Heights Park.
