Another new Chimayo weaving from Lisa Trujillo, titled "Fresh Start Chim" !
When Lisa weaves on her large loom in the main space of the gallery, she usually weaves two 48X72 pieces before cutting off to do the finishing work; a nice perk that our looms are able to hold so much warp (and completed weavings) on the beams!

This weaving also includes natural dyed indigo in two shades, madder root peach, and a light green from Chamisa with indigo overdye.

Prototypical Chimayo are basically red, black and white and very rythmic, the first product developed for the tourist market before two stripes and a center design became the signature Chimayo style. Different combinations of scattered elements, center diamonds, and half designs along the sides.

A new 48X72 Chimayo weaving, "OaTexChim" from Lisa Trujillo is now complete and on the website!
The Trujillos have been studying with weavers in Mexico and have been developing professional and personal relationships through-out this cultural exchange.

This piece was developed through a combination of design influences from Oaxaca, Texcoco, and Chimayo. We are gaining a deeper appreciation of the shared roots of techniques, equipment, and design approaches between our Rio Grande/Chimayo tradition and the various Mexican regional tapestry traditions. This reflects some of those parallels and differences, mainly in some of the smaller elements and the spacing of stripes and design, and the more Chimayo-like tapestry design logic.

The piece is made of handspun, undyed churro from the family's flock.

Emily Trujillo had the honor of being a keynote speaker at Colorado Weavers Day 2026!
She talked about her tradition, her family, her art, and herself in front of a crowd of about 150 people.
She brought naturally dyed yarn, two of her weavings "Hurt Me Less" & "Halazia", traditional (but still in use) antique tools, and her office plant bob 🪴
She'll be teaching and giving lectures in and out of state throughout the year, so stay tuned for updates about her and Irvin and Lisa.
