Nothing goes to waste around here!🏺✨

Broken pieces of pottery from the collection are getting a second life as colorful mosaic details outside the museum. What was once broken is becoming part of something new—and beautiful 💞

We’re so lucky to have so many talented local artists in Chattanooga helping us make these special details happen! 🧩❤️

Anna Safley Houston began collecting antiques in the late 1800s, traveling by train throughout the country. Over the years, some of those treasured glass objects inevitably broke. Thankfully, forward-thinking museum stewards saved the pieces.

Now, we’re giving those broken pieces a whole new life! We’re partnering with local stained glass artist, Amber of to create a one-of-a-kind stained glass piece for the Museum’s stairwell.🪟Amber is flattening the broken glass in her kiln and incorporating these historic pieces into a beautiful new work of art.

What a dream come true—to take pieces collected by Anna more than 100 years ago, saved by generations of museum stewards, and give them a new life as part of the Museum’s next chapter. ✨

We can’t wait to share the finished piece with you! Swipe to the end to see the approved sketch ✍️😍

Since the Tennessee state flower is the purple iris, and Anna was an avid collector of , it felt like the perfect collaboration to honor her legacy while creating something truly special for our building.

We can’t wait for you to see these stunning details in person. 💜

Inspired by Anna Safley Houston’s legendary eye (and her growing art collection), this installation is a nod to the way she once displayed pieces hanging from the ceiling of her barn.

We’re bringing that spirit back to life - in color! - with the help of , in a very secure and creative way! 🔨🪝
