A little something pretty for your gloomy-day scroll 🍅💙 As farmers market season winds down, we’re savoring the last of the tomatoes—and this beautiful blue glass tomato is a showstopper of its own!

Known as Tomato Butter, this whimsical piece of Early American Pattern Glass was made by Adams & Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, around 1891.

From Anna Safley Houston’s collection, it’s just one of many works of art you’ll discover when we reopen. In fact, we have an entire room dedicated to delightfully unexpected objects waiting for you!

Houston Museum in 1968. 🏛️✨

Not every museum transformation involves art. Sometimes, it involves asphalt. 😂🛣️

Our new road on the backside of the Houston Museum is officially taking shape — and while it may not be the most glamorous part of our renovation, it’s an important one!

The new drive will provide a safer, easier arrival for our visitors, with dedicated ADA-compliant parking and improved access to the museum.

And there’s more to come! 🌿 We’ll be adding plenty of landscaping and beautification over the next few weeks as we put the finishing touches on the property and get ready to reopen our doors to the community this November.

We’re getting closer every day, and we can’t wait to celebrate with you. Stay tuned for the official announcement of our reopening party! 🎉🥂

One of the most fun parts of preparing to reopen has been getting to know Anna’s collection all over again. ✨

We’ve loved mixing pieces from different parts of the world, putting unexpected objects together, and bringing out treasures that haven’t been on display in decades.

Anna collected with curiosity, imagination, and an eye for beauty—and we’re having so much fun seeing her collection through fresh eyes and creating new connections between the objects.

We may be deep in the final stretch of getting the Houston Museum ready to reopen, but one thing hasn’t stopped: education!

We recently had the chance to partner with Museum Magnet School to talk about how we curate exhibitions at the Houston Museum. With one of the best school museum programs in the country, Normal Park is doing incredible work connecting students with museums, collections, and ideas — and we loved sharing a little of our own process with them.

When Anna Safley Houston left her collection to the Chattanooga community, she wanted people to learn from the craftsmanship, history, and cultures represented in the objects she so passionately collected.

More than 60 years later, we’re proud to keep that mission going — in our galleries, in our classrooms, and out in the community.

The museum is reopening soon, but our work of learning, sharing, and connecting never stopped. 💙

✨ It’s all in the details.

Our original High Street sign is back where it belongs! After nearly two years of preserving and restoring our 1890s home, these little moments make us stop and appreciate just how far we’ve come.

The Houston Museum has called this house home since 1968, and it’s the oldest house still standing in the Bluff View Art District. We can hardly believe we’re almost through this incredible preservation journey and so close to welcoming you back.

So much care has gone into preserving what makes this house special while preparing it for the next chapter.

A huge thank you to and for helping make our dreams for this house come true. 💙

Our bay window got a little makeover ✨

Fresh paint on the original trim and walls, the metal grates are gone, new glass shelves are in, and some very special pitchers are back on display—some of which have been packed away for decades!

Like Anna, we’re very happy to see her “pretties” again 🌈
