For generations of students in Mecklenburg County and points beyond, a field trip to Discovery Place has been a rite of passage. Field trips to Discovery Place have sparked curiosity, promoted exploration and brought learning to life.

Last year alone, more than 60,000 students walked through our doors to experience the wonder of Discovery Place. That's 60,000 formative “a-ha” moments and cherished core memories formed in our own community.

More than 655,000 visits. One simple idea: museums are for everyone.

Through our Welcome program, Discovery Place has offered $3 admission to visitors receiving EBT or WIC benefits for more than a decade. Each of those visits is a family building something together, a child meeting a new animal friend or a curious teen asking one more question.

We’re grateful to the community partners and supporters who help us pursue this mission. Because science and curiosity should always be accessible.

As we look ahead to celebrating Discovery Place’s 80th anniversary of serving this community, we want to thank you for supporting us all these years! Just in the last five years, nearly 100,000 families from Mecklenburg County have explored, played, invented and learned with Discovery Place. Since 1947, generations of Charlotte families have made memories here, and many of you now bring your own little ones to the place you visited as a child. Thank you for being part of our story and allowing us to be part of yours!

Calling all NC spider spotters! 🕷️

It’s NC Spider Search week (now through October 11), and you don’t need to go far. Your backyard, your garden or your neighborhood walk is all it takes to help scientists learn where North Carolina’s spiders live!

Here’s how to earn your reward:
1️⃣ Photograph 7 spiders (any species!) in NC between now and October 11 and upload them on the iNaturalist app by Oct 31.
2️⃣ Report your participation using the link in our bio to claim a custom embroidered badge or a vinyl sticker (the exact one shown in the video!).
