These are some of the photos shared with us by Lois Leming. She also gave us a small plaster of Paris house that she said always reminded her of the Oliver Leming house.
The whole family really loved this North Street home.
We are honored to share some of their history. They lived at 740 North street for 45 years.

In moving things around and organizing archives from the recent sale of Heritage Hall, I found these wonderful jars with notes from Thelma Leming that were written 53 years ago.
We originally found them in our fireplaces during the renovation of the Oliver-Leming home back in 2011 to 2013 when we were preparing for the Centennial celebration of the Missouri State flag. They had been stored away and were in the archives from the history of the house.
Mrs. M.E. Leming…..July 1972!!!! She was warning the next owners about the caps on the chimneys.
I’ve also heard the story that she painted the curb yellow in front of the house so it became a no parking zone. She must have been an amazing individual. I knew her daughter Lois Leming. We loved her. She was beautiful, kind, and had a big personality. Our archives contain a lovely portrait of her. She also gave us a large number of her personal photographs to copy. We copied them, returned them to her, and they are also part of our Leming archives.
These notes are an unexpected addition to their history. Happy to see them again.

We had a celebration last night on the sale of the building.
Bert’s birthday was last Sunday, but that was the last day that we were scrambling to get the building empty so we did not celebrate it at all. I mentioned that last night at the end of our dinner at Ciao and Wyky disappeared for a moment. When he returned, they immediately brought out this impromptu birthday cake celebration. We all enjoyed it!!!
What a delightful surprise it was, and what a kind thing to do to make up for missing his birthday. Remember that last year we had a giant party for his birthday at the new museum and had 130 guests. We go from extreme to the other!!!!!
I need to look at some of the pictures from last year to remember what a wonderful evening it was. That was the party that we had planned to celebrate the donation of the magnificent black lacquer grand piano that Dr. Ro Robert Ward and his wife had donated to our Museum for the art gallery. When we realized that it was also Bert‘s birthday, we celebrated both. It was a delightful evening of friends and family. Wonderful memories.

Want to hear something really crazy??????
Two days ago we had a problem with the condensation in our air-conditioning system in the art gallery. The ceiling was soaked, water was running down our newly painted walls, and the furniture from our Lakehouse that was at the entry to the gallery is ruined. If disasters are supposed to come in threes, I think we just got our fourth.!!!! 😝😳🤪

We are sitting on the porch after lunch, having a banana ice cream drink waiting for the Adjuster for our Tree disaster at the Flag House. Every possible view of our front porch area is a disaster. Plants crushed, filth everywhere, thousands of pecans everywhere you look, pots and containers, damaged, divots in the yard, and all of the bushes in the planting beds are crushed. I know it could be worse, but this kind of ugly mess is heartbreaking. This was our one fortress where we felt like we finally had it pulled together.
I must try to remember that it could’ve been worse. The interior is intact, and I realize that that’s the most important. Wish us luck with the Adjuster. I hope they’re good people.
