Yes, the Open Meeting of the Bucyrus Historical Society held this past Thursday evening was a big success, both in attendance and it the excellent presentation by Mark Cory (assisted by his wife Tami) relating the full story of Col. William Crawford (and his wife Hannah). In addition, some mixed berries, yummy cake, cookies, caramel corn and potato chips were shared by all prior to the formal meeting. We all learned a few new things about our county’s namesake as well as about those Native Americans who had populated Crawford County nearly 250 years ago. A hearty “Thank you” goes out to all who planned and prepared for the meeting as well as to the Corys for the very educational program. For those who missed out, here are what at least a couple of the camera lenses present caught at the meeting.

If you've never had the chance to see this film before, now's your opportunity to do so—on "the big screen" no less! The plot is a bit "corny" but the acting is pretty good—especially Lauretta Schimmoler playing herself.

The Colonel Calls YOU!!! Come and hear all about Col. WILLIAM CRAWFORD, as portrayed by Revolutionary War re-enactor par excellence, Mark Cory, at the annual OPEN MEETING of the BUCYRUS HISTORICAL SOCIETY, tomorrow evening, May 21, 5:30-7:30 PM, in the handicap accessible, lower level auditorium of GOOD HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 129 West Charles Street in Bucyrus. There is plenty of parking and the covered entrance is off the driveway at the south side of the church building. There will be light rations (i.e refreshments) served and a brief business meeting, during which some very special people will be recognized, prior to “the Colonel’s” presentation. Your attendance is expected!—and it’s all free! Kindly leave all swords and long-rifles at home.

ATTENTION!!! Those who wish to help Alison Kovac with more headstone cleaning at Oakwood Cemetery this coming week (or were planning to come out for the first time just to learn “the art of the trade”), she has found it necessary to change the date/day of the week for this session. It will NOW be held on TUESDAY, May 19, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The session will begin at the Hopley grave site (Section K) in the morning and proceed to the Scroggs site (Section C) in the afternoon. Here are a couple of photos from this past week’s labors. This is an exceedingly valuable project as a part of the Society's contribution to America 250. Do consider being involved!

It is good to know that there at least 100 women who care in Crawford County! The Bucyrus Historical Society’s former Curator, Alison Kovac, was able to speak to the local chapter of the "100 Women Who Care" organization on May 11 and share with them some of the ongoing needs of the Society. We are extremely appreciative of the support which resulted from that presentation. It will help defray a portion of the day-to-day expenses of operating our strictly volunteer and non-profit Scroggs House Museum and Carriage House Annex. Now it’s up to some of the local menfolk to step up to the plate and do likewise!
