Houston Llew’s exclusive Spiritile has arrived! Celebrate 250 years since the birth of America with this limited edition Spiritile 🇺🇸

Wrapped around the edges of this commemorative release is the story:
“The sacred fire of liberty is now entrusted to the people.”
— Benjamin Franklin

What makes 1776 especially meaningful is that it marks a FIRST in Houston Llew history. For the first time in Houston Llew history, the glass at the heart of this Spiritile began in their own studio—melted, formed, and brought to life by hand. Fire has always been central to the Spiritile process. Glass and enamel transformed through heat into something luminous and lasting. With 1776, that story begins even earlier—making this piece a true reflection of American craftsmanship from beginning to end.

Handmade in Charleston, South Carolina, 1776 honors not only our nation’s 250-year legacy, but the spirit of creativity, independence, and craftsmanship that continues to inspire every day.

1776 is a Limited Edition Spiritile and will be available to order through Labor Day 2026!

Welcome to The Artisan’s Bench, a place where art meets function and handcrafted is the standard. Join our effort and belief in supporting artisan creativity and the importance of shopping locally.

We’re located in downtown Brighton, MI and have two floors / 3,600 square feet of unique shopping unlike anything else in the area.

Our Story

The Artisan’s Bench hasn’t always looked like the shop we know and love today. In 1993, 307 W. Main St was the first rug store in Downtown Brighton. Owned by Colin’s mother, Mondi Miller. She decided to continue her family’s passion of working with woven textiles. Creating this beautiful place where you could find authentic hand woven rugs.

In 2011, the store officially became The Artisan’s Bench. Colin continues to pay tribute to his mother’s rug business by keeping the handmade nature alive. Now you will find an assortment of unique handmade goods, including: rugs, ceramics, jewelry, paintings and more. Colin takes pride in his shop being exclusively handmade. Each artist in his shop is dedicated to their craft. The Artisan’s Bench represents 150+ artists with about 75% of those artists local to Michigan.

As the shop continues to grow and evolve, the “bones” continue to stay the same. The authenticity and originality we pride our store in remains. This will forever be a place to find handmade works of art and connect with a community of artists.

This week we’re sharing a wonderful collection of Kyanite & Moonstone pieces by Moonlight Mile! Jessie, the artisan behind Moonlight Mile, is drawn to the organic beauty of patina and textured surfaces. She embraces the natural character and handcrafted feel of her art that make each piece one of a kind.

A little about Moonlight Mile: She began making jewelry full time in the fall of 2017, marking a new chapter after a career as a graphic designer. The shift came at a meaningful moment in her life—after overcoming cancer and celebrating a milestone birthday, she felt inspired to explore a more hands-on, creative path. What began as curiosity soon became a source of fulfillment and connection, leading her to the work she creates today. She earned a BA in Applied Design with an emphasis in Jewelry and Metalwork from San Diego State University, adding to a degree in Studio Arts.

Jessie’s experience and passion is evident in her work today! Check the link in our bio to shop her work!

Prairie Smoke has blown us away once again with this gorgeous collection of necklaces! Each stone that Kim chooses has been hand selected for its lovely color and the character of its variation and inclusions. Kyanite, tanzanite, aquamarine, pink sapphire, and turquoise all harmonize together in this group.

This collection is a good one. I hope you find something special within it! Click the link in our bio to shop her collection.

Agate & Elm just sent us this stunning new collection! This collection is full of some very interesting stones. Amy always chooses earthy stones that make for such a beautiful look. My favorite piece in this collection is the biggest piece, an incredible Opalized Wood necklace! Opalized Wood is a rare form of Petrified Wood, it’s formed over millions of years by silica rich water seeping into buried wood which hardens into Opal! This stone is very unique and each part of it looks entirely different. In Amy’s collection, she has created several pieces from Opalized wood, yet no two are exactly the same!
