We are excited to offer Drop-In Artmaking and Guided Gallery Tours this summer with our intern, Emily Suit!

An App State BFA Photography student raised on the NC coast, Emily’s art beautifully explores nature and memory.

✨SCULPTURE SPOTLIGHT✨

Vandorn Hinnant: “Raven,” 2016

Vandorn Hinnant creates "sculptural evidence" of nature’s organizing principles, utilizing the Golden Ratio and ancient design ethics to communicate universal truths. His work, like “Raven,” bridges art and science by employing harmonic spatial frequencies and the five Platonic Solids. By blending geometry with mythology, Hinnant transforms raw materials into "magical creatures" that resonate with the natural world and symbolize the eternal forces of creation and transformation.

The Campus Arts Corridor creates a public art pathway that stretches from the Turchin Center to Rivers Street, with installations along the way at academic buildings dedicated to the arts. This sculpture–along with six others–is on display through August 7, 2026.

Not in town? You can virtually visit these sculptures and other exhibitions at tcva.org and via the app.

Welcome home Steampunk Babylon!

Charles Pilkey: "Steampunk Babylon," 2020
Rusted steel, bronze

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of artist Charles Pilkey, "Steampunk Babylon," part of the 34th Rosen Outdoor Sculpture Competition and Exhibition, has returned to the App State campus for future generations to enjoy! This incredible piece is enjoyed from afar, and upon closer examination, shares the intricacies and subtle surprises shared by the artist including animals, people and entryways.

The Turchin Center is grateful to Charles Pilkey for his donation, and students, faculty, staff, and visitors can view this sculpture outside the lecture hall entrance to the Turchin Center at the bottom of the "Transit Candy" mural.

✨SCULPTURE SPOTLIGHT ✨

Mary-Ann Prack: “Seeing Beyond,” 2018

Canadian artist Mary-Ann Prack blends her architectural roots with Abstract Expressionism to create a vibrant "synergy" between sculpture and painting. Based in NC, she translates the human figure into a precise language of geometric purity, using clay and canvas to celebrate the joy of the human spirit. For over four decades, Prack has transformed raw materials into one-of-a-kind abstractions that capture the individual presence and profound diversity of the human experience.

The Campus Arts Corridor creates a public art pathway that stretches from the Turchin Center to Rivers Street, with installations along the way at academic buildings dedicated to the arts. This sculpture–along with six others–is on display through August 7, 2026.
