✈️ The Blue Angels are taking flight! 💙💛

This weekend, the Blue Angels will take to the skies for the Yellowstone International Airshow! But airshows are nothing new to Billings-Logan International Airport.

Since opening in 1928, the airport has hosted a number of exciting airshows, including the one pictured here in 1939!

This photograph shows spectators gathered for the June 3–4 Airshow at the Municipal Airport, now known as Billings-Logan International Airport. According to The Billings Times in May 1939, spectators were treated to aerial stunts, along with contests where pilots dropped 10-pound flour bombs onto targets and even burst gas balloons with their airplane propellers! 🎈

Nearly 90 years later, the skies over Billings are still putting on a show. This weekend’s Yellowstone International Airshow is expected to bring more than 30,000 spectators to watch the incredible performances!

🏛️ An important piece of the McCormick family's history has found its way home!

We are thrilled to share that the Buffalo Bill Center of the West has graciously gifted the Yellowstone County Museum the original McCormick table set.

This beautiful set—consisting of one table and four chairs—once belonged to Mr. Paul McCormick, builder of the cabin where the Museum now resides. We're honored to preserve and share this piece of our community's history with our visitors.

A heartfelt thank you to the Buffalo Bill Center of the West for their generosity and commitment to preserving and sharing the history of our region. Their gift helps ensure this meaningful piece of the McCormick story can be appreciated here, where it belongs.

Stop by the Museum to see this remarkable addition to our collection and enjoy a cool escape from the summer heat!

We look forward to welcoming you.

📸 What a Day! Thank You for Joining Us!

Last Saturday, we were thrilled to welcome so many community members, families, and friends to the Yellowstone County Museum for our Reopening Celebration and Family Fun Day!

From exploring exhibits and enjoying family activities to celebrating together under the Big Sky, it was wonderful to see the Museum filled with smiling faces. The event marked an exciting new chapter for the Museum, and we are grateful to everyone who came out to support us and help make the day so special.

A huge thank you goes out to our staff, Board, community partners, and visitors whose enthusiasm and support made the celebration possible. We were honored to share this milestone with all of you. A particularly heartfelt thank you to the GoesAhead Family for raising the tipi and presenting, the American Mountain Men, and to John Warner for his amazing photography of the day!

If you weren’t able to attend, don’t worry — the Yellowstone County Museum is open and ready to welcome you! Stop by to explore the stories, artifacts, photographs, and exhibits that bring the history of Yellowstone County to life.

We’re excited to share that we have two new displays at the Museum!

As you head down the stairwell, you’ll now find works by Montana’s beloved sharpshooter Tom Frye 🎯. His incredible pieces—including his iconic Native American silhouette and the lovable Muppet duo Bert and Ernie—showcase a truly unique artistic technique.

Using precision and skill, Frye transformed bullet holes into striking works of art —something you definitely have to see to believe!

In the corner by the doors to the deck, explore what makes the Rimrocks so special, and discover what this land may have looked like millions of years ago.

Stop by the Museum and take a closer look at how unexpected materials can create something extraordinary.
