In this aerial view of Bethel, Plane Street is easy to pick out as well as the water tower. We don't have a date on it, but it is before the early fifties as the Union Street Post Office and Elementary School (Ebon C. Hill) school are not there. Also, it has to be after 1936 because the Burke Park Shelter House is there. See how many places you can pick out.

Not as many of us remember Kroger when it was in "downtown" Bethel (northwest corner of Plane and Main Streets). It was there from the 1920s until it moved into a new store further west on Plane Street in 1954.

The Northside Food Market was another neighborhood grocery on North Main Street. Ray Reynolds was the grocer.

On this rainy day, how about a rainy day photo from the past? The A & P Store stood on the northeast corner of Plane and Main Streets. Gaskins Drug Store was next to it. There is no date but was probably around 1960.

An enlarged copy of this picture is displayed at the Museum. We think it was taken in 1952. We know that it was taken on North Main Street close to the entrance to the schoolyard. The building in the center is the back side of the A & P Grocery (no longer there). The Margolis Apartments and Tip Foster's Department store (also no longer there) can be seen on the right side.

Good morning!

You may have seen the article in the newsletter about Tyler Hahn’s Eagle Scout project for identifying some of the prominent citizens and veterans in the Early Settlers Cemetery on North Main Street in Bethel.

The cemetery has been cleaned up and they have uncovered many lost and forgotten graves. What an undertaking this is!

Tyler is determined to find as many as possible and will welcome any volunteers to help out, THIS SATURDAY, October 10, at 4PM.

Tyler has an aerial map of the cemetery, and has it broken down into sections for each person to work with.

He also has a list of some names of prominent people featured in our museum and will be trying to locate these graves.

There are 600 plus graves, and he’d like to start by identifying about 150 on the list.

Would you like to help??? Just show up at the cemetery, this Saturday, at 4:00 and you will be SO welcome!!

Thank you and enjoy you day!
