Our president, Kelly Wright says:
THIS IS YOUR HISTORY!! TAKE A CLOSE LOOK!
The Clermont County Historical Society's recent move into the Batavia Village Armory has produced a lot of work for us—whew!!--but also some fascinating, rarely viewed artifacts, including stunningly pretty bound volumes chronicling Batavia Village history. These books include a bit of everything, from ledgers to council meeting minutes to school rosters, and range from the late 19th century through the last century. They are absolutely filled to the edges with names, dates, transactions, ordinances, grievances, and just about everything else that was the stuff of daily life here, all written in the most beautiful handwriting you've probably ever seen. The names in their pages? So many of them are still here today in Batavia!! A bunch of the volumes are bound in hand-tooled smooth leather and suede and stamped in gilt, and are objects of great beauty as well as information.
Come explore your family's history through these pages at our open house—A Call to Armory—on Sunday, September 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. The refreshments, music, good company, and history are all free.
The Batavia Armory is located at 65 N. Second St. Batavia OH 45103
