This Memorial Day, the Boone County Museum of History joins in remembering members of the Armed Forces who have fallen.

The photograph shows a Memorial Day parade held in May 1947. The procession was led by the Boone County chapter of the Women's Relief Corps. The WRC is an organization founded in 1883 to provide relief to Civil War soldiers and their families but expanded to all soldiers after World War I.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of our newest exhibition "Kishwaukee River Valley: First Nations." We appreciate the community's generous support as we continuously update Boone County's historical spaces!

This exhibit can be viewed anytime during our open hours! Visit us Wed-Fri from 10am to 4pm or Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. Admission is FREE ✨

59 years ago today, Belvidere was devastated by an F4 tornado. The storm took 24 lives and injured 300 people. Today, we remember those who were affected by this tragedy and sympathize with those that are still dealing with the trauma from this event.
