Welcome to the Beaufort Historic Site, set in the quaint seaport village of Beaufort, North Carolina. Beaufort, North Carolina's third oldest town, lies on the coast bordering the southern tip of the Outer Banks. Originally a fishing village and port of safety dating from the late 1600's, Beaufort has been visited by patriots, privateers, merchants and skilled craftsmen who built Bahamian and West Indian style homes and public buildings. Approximately 150 of these restored historic homes proudly bear plaques noting names of earliest known owners and dates of original construction. The Plan of Beaufort Towne, laid out in 1713, survives in a 12-block area which today is on the National Register of Historic Places. Located in the heart of the Historic District is the Beaufort Historic Site, which depicts 18th and 19th century coastal Carolina. The Site houses nine historic buildings as well as the Welcome Center on almost two acres.

Georgia is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, Georgia Watercolor Society, South Carolina Watermedia Society, and the Watercolor Society of North Carolina.

Her work has been the recipient of numerous awards in National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, Georgia Watercolor Society National exhibition, the South Carolina WaterMedia Society, Watercolor Society of North Carolina, Twin River Artist Association and Arts Council of Carteret County.

Her work is experimental and abstract impressionist in style. She loves playing with color, shapes, layers, and introducing textures. “Since much of my work begins with no preconceived idea, it is always exciting to see what will emerge from the blank surface. I use watercolor, ink, gouache, acrylics, and often papers to achieve the desired result.” Expressive and evocative, her paintings convey delight in her environment and spiritual roots. She considers herself a “layerist” in art and life.

She is a Louisiana native who has lived throughout the South. She currently lives on a barrier island off the coast of North Carolina. While living in Maryland, she worked as a marketing administrator for a major pharmaceutical company, assisting in the design of advertisements and promotional/sales collaterals, and worked for NC Division of Marine Fisheries in Morehead City, NC.

She received her BA from University of Louisiana in Monroe, and has studied with many nationally known instructors in workshops and open studio. She continues to study and experiment as she believes that “an artist is never done”.

She is a member of National Watercolor Society, Rocky Mountain National Watermedia, Society of Layerists in MultiMedia, Watercolor Society of NC, South Carolina WaterMedia Association, Georgia Watercolor Society , and Arts Council of Carteret County.

From the Photographer:

My interest in wildlife and outdoor photography has grown tremendously since moving to Carteret County, NC with my wife, artist Janet Jaworski in 2012. I have been fascinated by the unique interaction between water, sky and landscape. I have spent countless hours working to capture creative images of egrets, blue heron, pelicans, ospreys and other shorebirds. Most of my education has been self taught, constantly playing with the manual camera settings to transform what I am seeing in the moment into a pleasing image; and occasionally, MAGIC!
 
I have particularly enjoyed the challange of capturing birds in flight. Living with a tidal marsh in my backyard, I have been treated to a constant parade of shorebirds fishing, preening and often just passing through. Waves have their own fascination given the constant changes of sunlight, wind and movement. The Banker Ponies of Shackleford Banks and Cape Lookout National Seashore have been a true joy to photograph with their unique genetic heritage and seaside habitat. Shrimp boats and working harbors have also been a source of some beautiful images. Approaching weather fronts can give the gift of thunderstorms and dazzling lightning.
 
I am thrilled to collaborate with Janet, supplying her with a bounty of images that she turns into an endless variety of fabulous oil paintings. We have been operating Impressions Art Gallery and Studio in Morehead City since May 2021. It has been a pleasure and honor to display not only our work, but that of over a dozen talented local artists.

A wonderful late afternoon celebrating some of the very best of the Beaufort Historical Association: our volunteers!

We had a fantastic turnout for a special Volunteer Picnic, filled with good food, great conversation, laughter and plenty of gratitude for the incredible folks who give their time, energy and talents to keep the BHA running every day.

From welcoming visitors and leading tours, to helping with events, programs and everything in between, our volunteers are truly the heart of the Beaufort Historical Association. We could not do it without you!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Fat Fellas for catering such a delicious spread. You helped make a special day even better!

From the Artist:
I painted whimsical angels for fundraisers, visited art museums, and filled my walls with works from other artists: but never seriously pursued my own painting until fifteen years ago. When a new friend, Susan Woodson, suggested we start an art gallery in Raleigh near NC State’s campus, I paused. Had I owned a business before? No. So, with twenty five core artists and guests, the Roundabout Art Collective invigorated the Raleigh arts’  community for eight years. 

Thanks to instructors like Heather Sink, Kathie Odom and Trisha Adams, and Tim Horn;  my techniques have evolved.  I learn so much from Eric Rhodes’  PleinAir Podcast and have hauled my easel to Bermuda, San Miquel de Allende, Tuscany, rustic farms and lovely beaches.  Painting plein air is the perfect combination of painting and gardening, another hobby of mine.  
 
Currently, my paintings may be found on Instagram, Facebook or at Mattie King Davis Gallery in Beaufort. A portion of current sales will be donated to our beautiful mountain communities.   
 
Even though life is so full with family, friends, faith and fun; every chance I get I slip away to my studio or outdoors to paint.  Hope the joy I feel translates to the canvas and brings you great joy in your home or office!
