The Board of Directors has decided to share this with you. In the past 2 years, it has been brought to our attention that another non-profit, the Cape Lookout Foundation, has a 25-year lease on the Coast Guard Station and intends to use it as a high-end summer camp . (Yes, I said NON-PROFIT.) They do not have a solicitation license and are receiving thousands of dollars of our donations, by not denying that it is not us that the people are donating to. The lighthouse has been and remains our main focus. We are not paying monthly to lease anything. Why should we, if we are doing this for the greater good????? All of us are doing this together..... everyone who is reading this is a part of this Foundation. As a matter of fact, we've run the foundation out of my home, to save money on rent for an office that may cost $2,000.00 a month, which is crazy, if you are trying to use the money for a better cause. In the last 2 weeks, I've received a phone call almost every day saying that we were left money from trusts, and wills, and they had OUR phone number, MY name, and address, but because the executor of the will or trust went on to
"Cape Lookout Foundation's" website and got their EIN number; they gave OUR money to them. We've had to deal with this for 2 years. And now we are at the big project. Our precious lighthouse. We don't know what to do. We can't be spending money on lawyers. We need to raise money to ensure that the lighthouse's renovation is secure. How can we do that, if it's being taken out of our pockets??? This is such a mess. We hope you stand by us by continuing to make sure where your donations go.
Sincerely yours,
Joni Dennis, Director
and Board of Directors
